Dan, I think I read in one of the other threads that you had the pillion struts from a FXCW machined to fit with the seat.
I'm assuming you are in Vic because you got your seat from Con in Preston....so the $64,000 question is ... who did you get to do the machining (and painting ?) to modify the pillion struts, and was it expensive ?

That's a mod that I would definitely consider doing if they can make it work with the DG seat... easier than swapping back over to the stock seat I reckon.

    It's nothing u can't do yourself really,

Just needs a little grinding to accommodate the seat tab. There's plenty of metal on the struts so not an issue as far as strength

I just painted it with a rattle can which was pretty close to the factory colour, I've seen them chromed too but it wasn't worth the expense coz I only rarely ride 2 up

They come in a shitty grey colour and aren't what I'd call smooth

I don't see why you couldn't do the same with the DG seat

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

    Thanks Dan.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for this setup. There is one on ebay, but it seems overpriced to me... opening bid $1250. After checking the parts on the web, the whole lot (not chromed) would set you back about $700 USD without postage...not sure what the local price is.

I only bought the struts, I had the actual pillion seat made also, I wanted it something more comfy. I got them for around $300

wow $300, where u get em from? a bloody lot cheaper than the ones ive seen on ebay as well. can u fix a pillion seat strait to the rear fender, one of those generic ones with the suction caps? anyone tried it? is it any comfortable? id rather use the struts but as mentioned in previous post i dont go 2 up much either. wondering if the extra expense is woth it? any ideas?
also thanks heaps for the pics guys has given me a much better idea of the solo seats. just waiting for con to get back to me.lol danny gray from the states is about $400 all up to get, is that reasonable or can i do better locally here in aus?

Thanks Dan - $300 is a pretty good deal.

Darwin, I don't think you would want to fix a pillion straight to the rear fender....it is attached to the swingarm so bounces around with the suspension and the rear tire. I believe that the only option for pillions on a rocker is something that is strut mounted.

Jury's still out on the Danny Gray - it was easy to install and looks great, but I am still trying to decide on comfort. The first ride with it still gave me numb butt. The second seemed better. Not sure if I need to find the right seating position or if the seat is softening up.

By the way, the setup on ebay that has a starting price of $1250 or buy it now for $1950 is overpriced. The seller reckons he paid over 2k + $600 for chroming, but I found that I can buy the parts from an Australia Dealer for $870 brand new...no idea what the chroming would cost. Beware before buying on E-bay.

I'm still on my std rocka seat and find it comfy.Done over 20000+k's with a std seat. Me arse gets a bit funny but that's usual on any bike I've had. EG, Airlie Beach to T/ville non stop, about 300k's, and a little bit sore. Maybe I've broken in the seat? dunno. Plus I've got the clip on std luggage rack (replaces the pillion pad) for me swag. Without that,no swag. Sometimes I put my feet on the std rear pillion pegs to change the angle of sitting. Try that one,if you can't be bothered stopping and fucking around... I did get another seat under warranty early in '08. It got some ripples in it so was replaced.. Stock seat? mines cool so far.  (I weigh approx 100kg)

oh and that dosent include the fact that i have to ship the bike there to get it installed, and they havent put labour costs on that either. i can buy a new bike, seriously i can buy a quakka or something  holy shit

yeah i was lookin at the one on ebay, what a crock! surely u can buy cheaper here just have to shop around and wheel and deal abit. Ive found alot of dealers will negotiate on price on harley parts especially those they ordered and cant sell, i got a few already from my local dealer. u just have to get friendly with the spare parts guy lol. I had a set of kuryakan pegs on mine i got really cheap theyed orderd for another customer and they didnt want em. so i got cheap. i got lucky obvioiusly,  but still if u dont ask u dont get. anyway dans set up is perfect for me. i prob wont get em chromed, just paint factory blue. And really $800 bucks is a whole let better than the 1950$

Had the Danny Grey for a few weeks now and am not impressed with the quality. Only spent a few hours in the seat and the leather is bunching up. Do any of you have this same problem ?
