Since getting the nightster, besides it's rough ride, I am disapointed in the fuel range, so after a little research I have found a place who has already sucsussfully fitted a bigger tank to a fuel injected sportster. He said I could choose from the 4.2 or 5.o gal tanks, they use one piece tanks, not split ones.

Will have to do the bars so they won't hit, taller risers & fatter bars maybe, not sure yet.

Will post some more info when it comes to hand.

Hey Toxic, I'd be interested in looking at the info on bigger tanks.

I know what you mean about the bars, I just put 4.5 inch risers on mine, did the trick great, now the bars clear the sides of the tank.  Here's a pic:

nice job KC, I spoke with some work mates 2nite who have had dealings with the same guy I spoke with, they said avoid him like the plague, he seemed genuine with me so will continue to look into it. Rough cost with out painting the tank was a grand give or take, depending weather ya git the 4.2 or 5.0 gal tank.

KC mate, thats a great page, went through it, found an '09 part # for the 4.5 gal tank to suit the XL1200N, needs a different seat, installation kit & probably some different riser's, but it would all come ready to fit, with Harley warranty.

Will head down to discuss with the dealer 2morrow & see I I can't get em moving on it, once I get them to work out the finer details, I'll hit the U.S. web sites & see how much cheaper I can get it all for.

    Mate many thanks for that.

I just looked up the '07+ Sportster C tanks on M&M web site (www.mandmcycles.com): $487 US + shipping, damn their prices are good. If you get a vivid black or vivid black two tone you wouldn't need to get it painted either.

Thanks KC, Jilli, I believe the new tanks from Harley will be in the '09 big book of bling & other useless bits for Harley's, comming to a dealer near you soon, Jilli the tank you mentioned, what model did it suit as from what I've been told, no other tank specific to the Sportster range will go onto a Nightster for some reason.

    Thanks for the help

THATS THE ATTITUDE JILLI ! with the xl custom tank i hav'nt pushed the issue to much ive got about 280 out of mine and when i filled up it only took 14 litres i think you should be looking at 300 the light comes early though after about 2/3 of a tank ive done 70 or so km with light on i guess it will vary depending on how hard everybody rides .

I just checked out the latest VTwin catalogue and they now have a couple of tanks in there for '07+ XL's, part numbers: VT No. 38-0877 (seems larger than stock),  38-0485 (smaller than stock?).

see this page (bottom right tank on first page):

    http://www.vtwinmfg.com/catalogs/cyr/pdf/XLGASTANK.pdf

Plenty of tanks in there for '04 to '06 so like I said above wouldn't be a far stretch to get these modified to suit an '07.

    g'day all,

just finished fitting a 17 ltr tank on the new 48.

I got it from J&P landed in Oz  for $369.

Had no trouble with clearances anywhere.

Only thing was I had to buy new screws HD#1331 to fit fuel pump module back into tank.

Looks good so far photos to follow soon (few weeks).
