Who dobbed you in Ebony? I was told you need to be dobbed in twice to get a notice (can be from the same person though I believe) and in most cases its a neighbour.
I lay off the throttle as much as possible in my street, but there's a few bikers close so I'm fairly safe :)

Are you guys sure you need stock mufflers. I would fight this as all mufflers rust away over time and need replacement. If they are legal noise wise they should be fine ?.

No they don't need to be stock - they just need to be legal.

I have a set of slip on Screamin Eagles Street Performance mufflers & I doubt they would pass any test. I don't think the words "50 state street legal" mean much to the EPA.

You only need to be dobbed in once to get a  letter. Even if you have stock mufflers & some knob head rings the EPA & dobs you in then you still need to pass a noise test - guilty until proven innocent.

& yes, of course the EPA keeps a record.

    Been there done that.

cant you go to an exhaust shop and have your bike tested without the EPA involvement.
then you will know to change them for the official test or not

For me the easiest way would be put some stock mufflers on do the test and then change them over .
Remember these pricks have nothing better to do and fighting with them will in the end get you nowhere .
Show them what they want then change them back .

I asked the bloke who tested my bike why it's stamped 98db (ADR approved) on the swingarm when EPA states 94db. He said Harleys are allowed the extra 4db stock, but if you put aftermarket pipes on they have to be 94db. Rediculous!
