its amazing how far a little maintenence goes. This rim is 4 years old ,replaced after an accident.

this bike is ridden everyday rain hail or shine.

but have to admit the owner is a little shy on the cleaning part.

     G'day Rob

Surface rust is one thing, but the rust inside the rim is something else. Unfortunately, most shops will use a soapy water/detergent type mix when fitting new tyres This water is trapped inside the tyre once the bead seals and can cause all sorts of trouble, particularly if you don't clock up lotsa miles and change the tyres regularly. A better practice is to use talcum powder when seating the bead. I wise mate explained this to me and it sounds feasible.

    Cheers

thanks philthy for the advice , i will keep it in mind , i have relaced a new rim for him (aftermarket ) same amount of spokes 4/10 but there is a gap between each set of 4 spokes so doing my head in at the moment as the guy said the spokes will still fit but i have found them too long so will have another go at it tomorrrow.

if i r an r tyres i always use a can of chain lube on em to get them on / off then hit em with a rag full thinners to clean oil off an make a tad sticky soapy water has so many bits of crap in it as well as water it only takes few weeks before the rust starts i never use soap even washin a bike always use tar n bug remover them as soon as im finished washin hit it with the compressed air blower or the path blower to get rid of 99% left over water then ride it asap to get the water outta the tight spots
