its amazing how far a little maintenence goes. This rim is 4 years old ,replaced after an accident.
this bike is ridden everyday rain hail or shine.
but have to admit the owner is a little shy on the cleaning part.
just thought i would share.
G'day Rob
Surface rust is one thing, but the rust inside the rim is something else. Unfortunately, most shops will use a soapy water/detergent type mix when fitting new tyres This water is trapped inside the tyre once the bead seals and can cause all sorts of trouble, particularly if you don't clock up lotsa miles and change the tyres regularly. A better practice is to use talcum powder when seating the bead. I wise mate explained this to me and it sounds feasible.
Cheers
