Hey guys,
woundering if anyone knows of or has applied any solutions to the wet sumping problem in old sportsters,I have a 1974 sporty and it wet sumps kinda bad if left for a month or two with out riding, usually just put a pan under the blow by pipe to catch the oil,but what a pain in the ass!
happy new year John, i can not kick start harleys after being brought up on those early cast iron kicker only XLCH sporty's as i,ve had a few opperation's on the old kick start knee about 10 times on crutches , those early maggie's are stuff & old now there was only 1 good electriclan that knew how too repair them all the other's were hopeless, but he's 85yrs now that was little ray i use too race his 1951 AJS for him back in the 90's. i can take her on but a bit busy ATM only if he go's for a dissy with & electronic ign + battery other wise it's realy a waste of time, you will be wearing his knee out, the maggie run's off the cam @ 1/2 crank speed the dissy is 1/2 time again off the cam that is only about 1/4 rev per crank rev fo the maggie , the sporty kicker only turns the motor just BTDC too ATDC not enough turn too spark a light esp with & old maggie thats lazzy , i can look after her only if hes keen]
those early kicker gears are badnews as they wear-out from use & then slip & stuff your knee/leg great fun , a real mans bike ,
my late model harley kicked -back the other day & broke my thumb off the handlebar starter button, fuck that hurt
Het thanks for the info guys, well looks like ive got some work to do then, reseat the check ball n stuff.
I was just wondering if you can route the oil line back into the oil tank or does it need to be left open at the end to suck air back in? mmmm..might make a small oil catch can for it maybe
stuff M8, i hope them chinese can drive them dragons better than they can drive a car
