wat shits me is most blokes put pipes on their bikes that are over kill harley jappas an triumph spend millions to make sure the pipes match the engines there are many sites about exhausts but not many that have had many bikes an made changed an experimented in real conditions .in my opinion the only way to see if a set of pipes work is ride the bike on the street with a half decent afr meter an go from there most harleys run great with 45 mil header pipes an a set of good slip ons will give ya better all round performance than vance n hinze shit even screamin eagle straight threw slip ons work well i built a mate a 117 s & s twinkie an played with the heads a bit an ran 2 x 42mil mikunis which is over carbed and had standard header pipes with screamin budgie slip ons an got 140 ftlbs at 4500rpm
which to me is great cause he will never have to screw or rev fuck outta his engine an when dynod the tuner shit he didnt have to make one adjustment lol all we had was a afr meter i set up with him
ive even run standard headers on some strokers without mufflers at the drags an ran respectable times an trap speeds .pipes an heads play a major role ya can build a big as fuck mutha motor with heaps comp big cams great ignition an all the engine management in the world but if the heads an pipes arent right the rest is a waste of money

ive mentioned a few things to ppl about pipes on here an some see the pionyts im making to them playin with pipes is a resonably quik and CHEAP way of getting good horses ect .when i had my muffla shop in springwood yrs ago id explain exhausts like this to most ppl ya mouth is the carb or injection,,ya guts is combustion chambers ect ect an ya assholes the exhaust lol if all the tops workin great an ya assholes bloked ya wont operate but if ya assholes clear an sweet an ya guts good an ya eat the right stuff you can do anything
sorry to babble just changed morph p[atches so bit out there atm
    cheers ron

thanks heaps for clearing that up FYO makes alot of sense,my understanding was that these posts have always been about dyno numbers that these street bikes are getting not drag racing.

have a look @ RB Racing in the good ole US of A  ,   i use his pipes if you want max power , they are very hard to deal with but i hold a best time on a dyna 124 c.i. @ 10.1 sec @ 134 mph 1/4 mile time on a carb motor ,    3 passes  never rode the bike before or again  3 passes only ,                      they are mainly 2 into 1 type have a look @ there web site good read anyway ,     iam doing a 95 c.i. hot rod  with a set ATM

rb dont run baffles in their 2 into 1 either mmmm an yet they get great numbers seen few sets an they are noisy but work well ..think macka is after allround performance not 1/4 mile bit hard if he wants it spot on round town an up n down the twisties then be able to cane it an street race a rice burner ..the 2 into ones will always be better for twisties an everyday but bein 120 cube a good set of 2 into 2 will do the job as well but may just have the edge on big revs in top gear on a run over a 2 or 5 mile race or even from town to town against one his mates as some do up thata ways lol .. as i mentioned in another thread alot of the blokes buying bikes ect mainly buy the vance n hinze cause they look an sound pretty good but if ya harley stealer is in bed with the pipe manufacturers they arent about to say THESE PIPES SOUND GREAT AND LOOK SICK AS BUT THEY ARE SHIT ON THE PERFORMANCE STAKES shame many are findin out after they spend their hard earnt i reckon .but the main thing is if the owners happy with his bike no matter wat may or may not be wrong in our eyes that the main thing hey

the street pipes do have a short baffle  & yes they are loud  , basani  is also loud ,  but when you look @ some bike's  they lookloud just sitting there with the motor killed  esp with all the bucks spent on chrome billet wheels  & fancy paint

as a e.g. the 120R we race  used @ the last race meeting when i rode her   3 qualify runs + about 4 races 1/4 mile runs  back too the pit area  + a bit of a warm up here & there  she used exactly 10ltr's, that's a lot when you work it out, on the other post i mension RB Racing for as they have a read-up on spec , but on the other i think you can get most pipes to work with a bit of modification , as e.g. we run a S/Eagle only dyna 113 c.i.  + a ported& polished  113 same as the other  both have stock header pipes with stock muffler body's , the stock S/E 113 bike pulls 126 hp /118flb's torque the modified  113 pull's 135hp / 129flb torque  both on stock moded systems , i have modifieded a V&H long shots  with pretty good results but that's on a very modifieded EVBT 80.c.i  with sprialed flutted baffles likeold styled ducati conti type  ,  great note also ,

those 120R realy drink the fuel if thats the same as stock bike thats no good  as stock bike is very lean to start with to past the epa regs                        have you spoke to peter @ Robbo's @ canberra

Macka, the funny thing is your 120 is probably far more efficient than the 96.
Unless you were running the whole trip at WFO, you should get similar economy.

your 120R ,   have you double check too make sure she has the bigger fuel injectors by P/N  ,    i know big stronger motor will be less throttle for the same speed as a smaller engine but on the H/Way the gearing is still the same as far as rev's in top gear is concerned   still stock gear ratio's ,        the 120 should stil drink more  even just on the cruise H/Way  @ 120 /140 klms unless your fighting a very strong headwind  the hole way ,            what do you think

super trap plated mufflas are shit as ive found bassini rb an custom made to suit the bike is the best way to go also shorter isnt better have good read up rodder the best length for most 2;2 is 38inches long and that was done on a dyno yrs ago on a 93cuber if ya went shorter on the length on the 120r ya would loose mid range only way to have a motor work with shorter pipes is to supacharge nitros or turbo it

Old Skool Supertrapps work on most of Harley racing bikes OK weather 2-2 or 2-1 pipes. There's lots of guys running them in the states with big cube motors getting good numbers. Times are changing with the cops and EPA and there's not to many performance pipes that come in under 92 decibel with engine mods. Like it all not most street builds will be running supertrapps in a few years because of noise.

u did say in ya post that shorter pipes will give ya better down low n mid range .. i shouldve quoted but i dont like that .. 44inch wouldve been without baffles for good power but was it 45mil tube ect i worked in the exhaust industry in aust an done a performance course at hookers in early 80s which i won workin for repco muffla fit ..learnt a shitload as well from the mates in top fuel back in castlereagh days also from the natli boys when we worked in a 10 x 10 shed in their mums yard then built the main an first NATLIS in kingswood behind the golden fleece petrol station goin back to when they had the turbod supercharged trike in the 70s took me an jock mc cleod 3 weeks to work out the pipe lengths an dia for it so itd work the way it should have same as when i built frog in a blender the turbod trumpy had a cunt time doin it but got 115 hp an 87 tourque outta a 650 stroked bonnie back in 98
i not sayin ya totally wrong just with the plates in supatrapps its like a harley buttplug lol the best thing they done was bring out a stright threw baffle which worked better than the plates ..an yea if ya got done for noise ya go home take plates out so it was realy restrictive as the mor ya put in the better it breathed if memory serves correct in the rb site they to explain about how traps were not real flash an think they were around the 38 inch mark too but would need to go back an find the write up sorry if i came across bit harsh but one thing i do know is exhausts hey over 30 yrs of the shit lol cheers

hi macka, have you sorted the 120R yet, long story cut short Frasers m/cycles  is letting me have a new beast  for the screaming eagle drags series i think i did mention something earlier for this ,   well we started on her motor as to-day  i get too oversee the engine & tweak her -up a bit while were in there,      the head harley mechanic & i  was talking about yours while working  & we think it's the wrong map as you say it's off the 110c.i. motor they have a diff stroke lenght @ 43/8" compared to the 120R @ 4 5/8" stroke   0.250" diff timing's for the firing , i  would be looking @ this tune?

i want to thank Frasers  motorcycle's for beliving in me & letting prep & race there brand new 120R dyna,   i cannot wait too set her-up & run her-in,    i will let this site know how she perform's dyno read-out's + race result's as well ,

i hope you have a  good result with your motor

yes , nev should be able to help you with your bike ,  i do not belive that anything is wrong with her mechanically , just the tune  as long as the pipes have a nice free flowing baffle with a good angled  entry  you should be good  with the good tune ,     fraser's mechanic say that the 120r tune should work  even with the o2 sensors off  & pluged , but i.am & old carb fellow ,       i find it hard too send a pm message even let alone  tune buy a computer  i help on the dyno but do not opperate them,

yes iam very happy too start on the new 120R dyna project  as we will set this bike up on stock headers & mufflers modified of course ,    as looking stock from the outside,        ATM the N.S.W. screaming eagle  comp is mine too lose  as i 'am 4 race wins in the lead ATM with 2 rounds left           10.2's  1/4 mile time is my aim straight off ,  as i need to be ready  before the race in april but i should not aim too-high ,  we will see soon , would a 9.8 be way too much

Good on you m8, great to hear Frazers giving you there best to ride.

Macka you just ride straight down the coast mate, should be an easy two day ride Cairns to Sydney. if your coming let us know we will fix it up for you to race in Screamin Eagle Harleys. you will have fun m8 and the black dyno will confirm if tune is right.
