hi im new to this site and just had a question . I have a 2000 nighttrain when i throttle sharply i hear a gas type sound from around the throttle area like when you go to start the bike and its cold in the the ignition / throttle are you hear like a "puck" sort of sound would greatly appreciate if anyone knew roughly what the problem is cheers and thank you for any help or advice .adam
The boyz are right Adam, your description is a bit vague, and it could be anything.
I don't mind the odd mystery challenge so I'm gunna have a crack at it for ya.
The "gas" sort of sound may simply be the sound of air flow through the venturi/throttle body, or it could be a vacuum leak.
Check your air cleaner for damage as a hole will let you hear more of what was already there that you couldn't hear before.
Make sure that none of the little black rubber caps around the throttle haven't disappeared.
The "puck" sort of sound may be the slight backfire that sometimes happens when starting cold,,, only you're hearing it more so because the air cleaner that was muffling the sound previously is damaged and you hear it more pronounced..
See if you can determine exactly where the new noises are coming from and that will give you a better chance of tracking the problem.
If you haven't got a stethescope, hold a lenghth of 3/8" plastic tube to your ear and search for the noise with the other end of it,,, rough I know, but it works well.
Good luck on your gremlin hunt Mate.
