You see I met her on the internet-- its the 2012 triumph thunderbird storm-- dont know how to post any links but well worth a google--i really hope the road king understands after all it may just be a passing fantasy.

1700 cc paralell twin liquid cooled, twin floating discs up front with 4 spot nissan calipers, brembo 2 spot on back, mags, 97hp they reckon and about 100 accessories if required

The Trumpet's a very nice machine grim, take it home and introduce it to the old girl, she'll probably spit the dummy at first, but will eventually enjoy the company in the garage on those cold lonely nights,,, and she'll eventually appreciate and respect your care and attention a little more.

I have never posted in here before. Its funny you bring this up. I am about to get a back in the saddle after a 10 year break. I was initially looking at Triumphs, but the Thunderbird Storm was out of reach financially. This also meant that all HDs were also out of reach. I then settled on either the Speedmaster or America. Now Im in 2 minds as I conteplating importing a HD from the US and spending a little extra to get exactly what I want. You only live once right...

The Storm has all the features, as above plus more, I want. It has beautiful lines and sounds great (with short pipes). But I have always wanted to own a HD.

And before anyone says anything, no I cant get both :-)

    Cheers

    Welcome to the show TooEZ

I can understand exactly how you feel.  Went into the Dealerships and felt poor, lost and lonely.

Had organised the import, finalised the finance subject to domestic (wife) approvals, establised a U$ buy budget and an Aussie landed $target.

Then took a step back when I realised a brand new Thunderbird was within reach under said budget.

Read the reviews and looked at em in their showroom.

Didn't dare take it for a scoot cause I knew the chequebook would be opened afterward.

Great looking Motorcycle - loved the lines.  They say a nice handler and fair zippy as well.

Reckon though the - what if, but if only ?? would have lingered with me.

With only 1No x shot in the pistol - it had to be an HD for me - choicing which one was half the fun.

    Good luck with the decision.

Anything is better than none at all.

I think you all need to go and take a cold shower. How bloody could you?
Your HD gave you the best years of its life and now you just want to leave it in the corner while you ride the ass off something younger and flashier?
nah, I understand completely. I've been eyeing off a sexy young Bonnie for the last couple of weeks. She's a fairly cheap sort of thing but still too expensive unless I get rid of my current mistress and after waiting 20 odd years to get her, that aint happening.

I have ridden a thunderbird (not the storm though) and was very impressed. They have a fair bit of get up and go (roll on throttle response from about 80kmh was almost identical to a mates 110 FXSTSSE), handle well and have excellent brakes (as the aforementioed FXSTSSE found out when we came up behind a slow moving caravan and had nowhere to go - Trumpy outbraked the HD easily). The one I rode was loaded up for a run and was nice and comfy to ride.

Guaranteed you wouldn't regret having one in the shed.

    Cheers

Mount the lot of them I say,and often..!
Treat 'em mean and ride 'em lean.
Give'em full stick at every opportunity.
And when your finished give 'em a wipe over so as they're eager and willing to give you another go at 'em when the need arises.

Are we still talking about motorcycles..?

well I had my little fling in the weekend---took the new girl out for a test ride.

the Triumph dealers test rides are a bit different from any of the Harley ones I have been on. You basically signed the liability forms, show your license and your off, on your on. In all honesty the thunderbird storm from my point of view was a pleasure to ride, so much so i didnt realise I was gone for an hour and half. I had even forgot that I had driven down there with the wife but there she was waiting patiently .

On road the t-bird storm is $23,750. what you get standard for that price is. the biggest parrallel production twin 1700cc which I believe is around 103 cubes. double over head cams, injected, they say around 97 hp and I sure with the right pipes and breather would easily get over the 1000hp mark. twin 310 floating rotors with 4-spot nissan calipers (triumph logo) and 310 rear rotor with a 2 spot brembo on it. They certainly work well and I noticed the difference over my kingy. through the twisties she handled well, held its line with the odd heel and peg scrape. The box was good selected well with no missed gears. Up front they have 47 mm showa damping rod fork set up which would probably benefit from some gold valve emulators and on the arse were showa adjustable twin shocks--no adjustment for rebound though, all in all they did the job well one up. the primary drive is gear driven so you do notice a little more mechanical noise than the kingy. the seat was comfortable for the time i was on her, but I guess for all day riding you would want one of the oem accessory up grades. they come std with what i thought was a nice stlye alloy. The valve stems on the wheels were pointed out and would be really easy to adjust tyre pressure, a little thing i know but fuck I hate pumping the tires up on the kingy.I think 'triumph' have nailed it with the old syle look with the modern engine and all in all its a great package with plenty of power. I left that dealership buzzing went home washed the Kingy and took her for a blast. Could i sell the kingy and swap camps, I dont know, I reckon some people are born to ride harleys and I think the old girl is still under my skin---GO THE KING--cheers Grim.

Lynchy every time I hear that Trumpet sound, I smell perfume and pot, taste rum and my ears burn from the music. Getting old is like a permanent stain on your jocks I reckon. Grim, buy it mate, with those pipes it sounds shit hot and a beautiful machine all round. The Roady will understand.

I have been thinking the same thing actually. I just have to get my head around the water cooling. Never owned a water cooled bike. More problems for a keeper than air I think.
