I like the idea if a purpose built hardtail, know that goes against the whole chopper idea, but there are some top qaulity frames on the market that look awesome and will probably work out cheaper than cutting yours up and getting it certified. The other part is that you'll always have your original frame to go back to if need be! That's my 2 cents, mind you its something I've never actually done so its all theory mate!

Either way, good luck with your project, sure we'lll all be looking forward to some build pics when you get started.

If it was me mate I'd buy
A complete frame but as with them be careful as there has been people that iv talked too that said they bought frames like kraft Tex that was supposed too be bolt up and register and have still had too have them certified so do your homework and make sure you don't buy the first frame you see on eBay cause someone has changed their mind as they might of hit the same problem.

Me personally it was about doing it all myself in the shed . Also keep all your wiring even if you think you might run a ultima wiring loom as you will need a few things off the old one

The way Rego see it, the frame is the bike. If the frame you buy does not already have a VIN on it then you will definately have to have it engineered and have a VIN issued. This is not that hard but can be a hassle and there is a cost.

Welding up the existing frame means you still have the same frame, hence the same bike. Much simpler for rego.

Weld on's still have to engineered and approved. Once fitted . Some engineers will ask for a Xray report on the welds
, that can cost up to $600.00 on top of the engineers report. Sure you can weld on and just ride the bike without the report, but there are a lot of smart coppers out there and you don't need those hassles

That last pic looks pretty sweet, but I reckon it would go better with some wiring. Might not look as good then.

Hi mate between me and rider on the forum we worked it out. Iv stripped the old wiring and got the plugs I need too run with the ignition module. What year do you have again just remember you will need the voes for the carby and the ignition module. Look in my thread in introductions. Iv run the battery down flush with the bottom of the rear frame infront of the wheel and the ignition module bolted under that.the ultima module iv tigged a bracket in right up the front of the frame under the seat and drilled and gromited the back bone too run the wires up too the neck and same for the side tubes too run the wires down too the indicators and tail light too hide all the wiring. Also modified the old coil mount and welded that too the tube that runs down where the rear of the motor mounts up. If I can be of any help mate I will be just let me know

Love the lines on a ridged, that springer front and apes just dose it for me. I wonder what it will ride like on our melbourne roads?

Looking good is that a Kraft Tech frame.

Not keen on the oversized Apes doesnt do much for the bike, flat bars would look great.

if you ride it and get a unroadworthy slip on it you wont be able to get an engineers until the unroadworthy is cleared which you wont be able to do without an engineers, well its that way for cars, they do it that way so they can get cars off the road for good....i'd look into more if i were you....if your in no rush then just do it right man!

This is something I've always wanted to do, but until I get a chance to ride a ridged it's not going to happen, I'm just too scared I won't like the ride and all the time and hard work would goto waste, what color's you looking at? And which tank?

Looks good mate. I like the look of the tank on it - then again, I'll probably like the look of the coffin tank too. Can't wait to see it finished.

    Cheers
