Tree install

     Hey lads,

So I have started the install of the new HHI 4 degree trees and have a question for those that have done it.

Do I have to pull the tank to get to the wiring harness?  The wiring goes through the top tree and disappears under the tank.  Can I just raise the tank or do I need to remove it?

    Cheers

Tank off... to get to the wireing on the sides of the frame, the wireing / & plastic joiners will fit through the hole in the top tree,

    Hey All,

So I didn't need to remove the tank, just removed all the bolts and slid it back far enough to get to the harness. All good. :)

Trees are on but have to go out - maybe Sunday I will get the rest of it done. :)

    Cheers

I just fitted 3 degree trees to my FXR and had to remove the tank to do the wiring but its an aftemarket harness so the wires needed to be cut and joined. When it was all back together the top tree hit the tank so I had to modify the stops - so be careful that doesnt happen to yours.

    Hi lads,

Thanks for the heads up. The tank is heavily covered, so no damage at the moment. :)

One thing I did notice is the lack of grease on the bearings from the factory. Barely visible. The neck was not full of grease as I expected. I have repacked with a high quality Moly based grease. I am not into having the entire steering head full of grease - a waste of good grease if you ask me.

Trees are on, and now I have to put the forks on etc. Should be done today.

Ok.. The tress are installed and all back together, and I reckon the bike handles better than stock.  I have no wobbles at all up to 140.  In fact, took my hands off the bars at 130 and it was rock solid.

A couple of things to note.  The instructions from HHI are shite!!  There is no diagram, so when they start talking about certain screws and bolts, you can have a head scratching moment.

The install went really well.  No damage to anything, and the only query that I have is how tight to do the stearing head??

The manual talks about fall away, but I am fucked if I can undertstand it, AND I don't have pinch bolts on the fork tubes anymore, so the steps no longer apply.

I just tightened until it was snug, and no free play in the trees.  As in I could not get them to wiggle at all.  The only movement was rotation of the bearings.  Any comments on this??

I think it look great!  I may tak the 4 inch risers off and move the bars a little more forward.  I won't know until I take it for a long ride.

    See what you think...

Thanks mate! I reckon it does too!!

I am still trying to work out how I can perform the Fall Away test and adjust. The new trees don't have pinch bolts like the stock ones. The tubes screw into the top of the tree, and there is a bushing that holds it in place - so it has me stuffed.

It rides perfect - so I am not that concerned! Plus my bike lift cant get it off the ground level. LOL!!
