i was thinking after i get it relocating speedo, 1" lowering blocks, different headlight maybe, removing belt guards and reflectors,
A top ride so well done and welcome.
The best thing about a HD is nobody's option counts except your own but here's my two bobs worth:
The short suspension travel means a jarring ride made worse by forward controls since you can't take the weight on your feet. Also the iron is pretty sporty with a natural leaning forward riding position which is enhanced by mid pegs which also make the handling better.
For lots of people the short shots are annoyingly loud with a high pitched bark that will have you riding with ear plugs (which you should anyway so what the heck). It's a matter of taste but SE pipes sound very sweet on these, and should improve performance over the short shots.
Now please ignore all the above and get whatever you like! Hope to catch you on the road.
My 2 cents worth - If you are more than 180cm in height and have a reach like an Orangutan, then fwds & flat bars will be comfortable on your back if you are any shorter then the lowered rear is going to kick your arse clean over the bars when you hit any decent bump/lip in our wonderful goat tracks (roads).
As for the Short Shots - WHY????? Why the fuck are you guys interested in losing low end and mid range grunt and creating a terrible crackly farting noise from these pipes all for the sake of a 'look' - Don't be a Sheep - be creative - they are too noisy (way too many decibels for EPA) even with the baffles fitted and they rob power - unless you are looking for top end power and you are going to put it on the drag strip - they are old skool drag pipes and are meant for high RPM drag racing!!!!! Get the idea? But its your money, your fine, your time pulling off the pipes and replacing the stock items (thats all of the crossover pipe connections, the O2 sensors etc) - keep the standard header pipes & crossover and use a good quality slip-on - will have heaps of bottom end grunt , be less noisy (and have a nice low rumble and still be noticed).
2 into 1 pipes will also keep your bottom end and mid range grunt (plus look like my old Z1B) but they don't do anything for me fitted to a Harley!!!!
Anyway that's 40+ years of experience comin' at ya!!!! You can take it or leave it and look forward to shearing time
I bought my 2" tank lift & ignition relocation kit from DK Custom in the States. There maybe local retailers that sell 'em as well. You don't need risers to lift the tank.
