Gday folks. Any BMW riders here? (read on...)

The reason I ask is I'm going to buy another bike later this year & I'm starting to get my planning done now.

I really like the '08 XL1200C & they're going for $14990 with warranty at Peter Stevens OR the '04 BMW R1150R Rockster going for $8990 with warranty also at Peter Stevens.

    I've had a '92 Sporty 883 & a couple of BMW's as well but not an R1150.

I know the performance of the Beemer will crap all over the HD, but now that the HD is EFI, it 'should' be a little more reliable?

I don't know if I can justify the extra $6k just for looks & sound, but I'd sure appreciate some input from those that have had or currently have both.

Most of my riding will be Ferntree Gully to Marysville via the Black Spur & back via the Reefton Spur. Both bikes would suit this mountains & corner style of riding. I'll also be riding with the Mrs on the back on the weekends & she's fussy about the seat so most aftermarket sporty seats & sissybar/backrest will be fine, but I'd probably have to look into a Corbin for the BMW.

    Thanks in advance,

    Kool

My only Beemer was / is an '83 model R100RS. Mate, if you're into riding for ridings sake you can't go wrong with a Beemer. Well engineered and have a good and respected name for having produced quality bikes for decades. They're a beautiful machine and every 'Mr Sensible' should ride one; kinda like the Volvos of the bike world.

BUT, if ya want something that illicits an opinion good or bad from EVERYBODY on the Planet, if ya want a bike with a roar that can't be beat and a bitta mongrel about it then HARLEY is your answer.

Do the wise thing, put the missus on the back of both and ask HER opinion. Good luck!

R1200RT is by far a much better bike than the 1150. BUT ... nobody hears you. For safety, you can't go past HD ( Loud pipes do save lives ) . If you're into spirited riding, then the BMW is the bike of choice. For a weekend cruise and enjoying the surrounds, HD is the way to go. From someone who loves both brands of bikes ( and ridden both ) .

Thanks for the feedback blokes. I talked to a HD mechanic thismorning & got some great info.
I've been riding for 29 years now & I must say that my last bike (92 883 Sportster) was a lot of fun & only broke down once in 3 years (the wire broke off the back of the ignition barrel).
All that in mind, I'm thinking that the '08 1200 XL1200C is looking like a good fit for me.
I reckon there's good & bad in ALL brands, & it depends where you're at in life as to what you ride.

Looking forward to another Sporty now.

    Cheers.

I ride often with a mate on a 1200 bmw. A magnificent ride but every time he follows me around town he grizzlies about how everyone looks at mine but his is invisible. A bit of satisfaction in that, but maybe you aren't as shallow as me.

G'day Kool68, the choice is yours to make, but what ever you choose, ride safe.
