g'day all, only new here.

looked at an 87 sporty today with a 1200 engine, yes a 1200, matching numbers.

wide glide front end, very good paint (painted about 4 years ago, but looked after) forward controls, softail handle bars.

has a slight oil leak at the bottom of the push rods but am assuming its only a gasket.

that was about all i could find wrong with it.

the bloke wants 6k for it on the road, reg till april.

very neat and tidy bike.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

The 5 Speed Bikes are the one's to buy,

I bought my 91 1200 sporty for $5000 in pretty good condition .should beable too get him down lower as the guy had $6000 on mine

keep away from the 1986-1990 sporty's could be a bit of trouble if unluckly

what sort of trouble is common on these first 1200's?

its only done about 45000k's which i didnt think was too bad for a 25 year old bike?

 the g/box couintershaft  can break in half & smash thru the cases, the clutch does not have a nut holding it on & takes out the alt ,  + the main pinionshaft on the crankshaft breaks off  & stuffs the hole crank , apart from that there a good bike , they fixed all this on the 1991 up 5 spds models
