Just a run down on my last order for Harley parts from the US. From what I know Australia has a free trade agreement with the US so this ban on selling to us here just pisses people off, me included so I figured I try to get around the BS.
Decided to order online from Lake Shore Harley Davidson, Illinois cause they got good raps from HDForums US. Just my luck they offered free shipping to anywhere in the US if you spend over $500. Between my brother & I we ordered 6 parts totalling US$945.20. Same parts here in OZ totalled AU$1453.55, difference of $508.35, even more considering the high Aussie dollar.
Opened a gooping.com account for free which gave me a US address in Utah. Had Lake Shore HD ship it there, for free! Once it got there they weighed it all and then forwarded it to me via DHL for US$180. This wasn't too bad considering I had a swingarm & shock absorber kit & brake caliper making the box weigh about 20kg and 46 litres in size.
All this took just over 2 weeks & saving me $328, more considering exchange rate at the time of 1.03
On another note, if you guys want to save on shipping on large bulky items, try freight via sea. Just ordered 2 rims & tyre and had it shipped via sea freight costing me US$250. Not bad considering UPS quoted over $500 for just one rim. Only downfall was it took 45 days to get here, but I wasn't in any hurry.
Thanks for the positive info Wallah
