Excessive USA postage cost?

I'm looking to replace my leather jacket following the cutting up of my fave last year (photo) and I've been Googling and looking, looking, looking for a while. So I eventually found a jacket on the 'US Wings' website and went through the 'add to cart' procedure right up to the final price and POSTAGE cost .................... $225.00. That is their cost to MAIL a leather jacket to Australia!

I'm thinking 'that can't be right' so I've backed away from the purchase and sent an email to the Company and asked they please check their postage cost to OZ. I've bought plenty of things from the US (including a Belstaff jacket which would be of comparable size & weight) and always paid between $30 to $70 postage - on anything.

    Here's the reply:

My shipping cost is based upon total sale price. $644.00 is charged at 7% shipping (x5). The $225 would be correct for the shipping and handling.

    Thank You,

If I were to respond to Myke (that's Mike with a Y ) I'd say 'go f*ck ya self and buy another vowel' but that would be harsh... so I won't. Instead I'll continue Googling the same jacket until I find another at a reasonable price - in fact I've already found the same jacket on another site for $100 cheaper!

Or am I wrong? Is $225.00 a fair postage cost from the USA? Remember this is a jacket and not a f*ckin' Gold Wing.

$225.............Jaaaaeeeezus! I like the formula that they use.....$644 plus 7% time 5 equals WTF??? What if you buy a $250 gift card? It will cost $87.50 for a stamp? Let them know to fugg off.....and move along. Not worth buying a vowel from the either.

I might be able to buy an airline ticket, fly out there and ship it myself to save you money!

i bought a jacket from a place in germany after lots of research over 12 months.. they have a huge range. shipping for a sheepskin flying jacket that weighs heaps is at todays price $45 odd dollars... they were great to deal with. took maybe 8 days from memory delivered to my door. packaged well too. excellent quality jacket . easiest way to find them is go to ebay and enter "noble house shop" maybe even google will take you there directly. a similar jacket made in the uk sells for almost double the 600 i paid and i cant see the quality being any better.

not affiliated in any way, just passing on a good business transaction that i experienced.
