HD Boot Mark Remover

    A distinct blob of my daughters boot rubber was ‘welded’ to one of my chrome V&H pipes.

    It had been there for quite a few months; while I used and tried various products to remove the blob.

    One night at Harrys Café De Wheels (Liverpool) the King of Bling [Phantom] went to his RK panniers;

    pulled out some trusty cleaning stuff trying his hand to remove the blob; negative result.

    I was eventually pointed in the direction of HD Genuine Boot Mark Remover

    (For use on exhaust systems; formulated to break down rubber, plastic, tar and bugs).

    I also got me some HD plastic razor blades.

    Yesterday, I attacked the blob.

    It did require 3 separate applications; but the product eventually removed all traces.

    I’m extremely happy with the product.  Yep, it did take 3 applications of the creamy stuff –

    had to let it do its work over a 15 – 20 minute period then scrape away with the plastic razor.

    Just took me time and employed sum patience.

    I am happy cause it has been there a long time with the pipes being heated up then cooled every week or more;

    which to me meant it was being ‘welded’ in place.

    I reckon if I had this stuff on the day it happened or even a week later – the blob would have gone with one application.

    Were can I get some HD Genuine Boot Mark Remover? I've tried the local dealer and they don't stock it!! I've tried searching online but can't find anyone you sells it online either!

    A few remedies from the USA forum include;

    Try this on warm pipes. Dampen the spot with Brasso, let sit for 10 seconds and rub if off. I found about half of the nasty came off without any effort. A second application polished it like new.

    Take any towel drenched in water. Totally drenched. Don't ring out any water and start wiping the area. The water boils and steams under the rag and everything I have ever wanted to get off my pipes came off with very little effort. The water also keeps the rag from catching fire and cool to the touch. You need to be carful through caus you can burn yourself though.

    0000 steel wool after you get the pipes hot. rub lightly works like a charm

    WD 40 works pretty well. I have tired 3 or 4 times - the stuff works to get that crap off.

    Oven Cleaner....

    Just warm the pipe up and spray it on.
    Leave it for ten minutes and remove, may reply some scrapping or re-spraying but will come off.

     There is a product called brite shine(yellow tin) and super cheap sell a similar product as well, can't remember the name but it's in a silver tin. Basically it's like a like a lambs wool type wadding, it's got some type of solvent/polish soaked into it. All you need to do is tear a little bit off, rub it on your pipes and it gets rid of boot marks, bugs, road grime, as well as polishes your chrome while you are at it. Great stuff to use, doesn't scratch your chrome either. I have autosol polish too which would work too. Mr sheen would be something to try as well.

    i saw that stuff at the HD shop the other day,
    Not sure if its really any different to regular chrome polish,
    I often spend 20 mins polishing my melted boot heal off the pipes.
