speedo issues

trying to fix my speedo and just wanting some advice.  before i started anything the speedo was not working at all.   i have pulled the internal cable out of the sleeve and there does not seem to be any damage to it and both ends are still square and are not snapped.  i stick the end into the speedo and spin and the speedo needle jumps slighty.   ......  so i suppose my main question is does all that sound fairly kosher as in cable and speedo are fine and the problem is looking like it could be the unit at the wheel ?

    any comments would be appreciated.

hi if it's & aftermarket speedo drive unit they stuff-up  they squash up & jam from the axle nut presure,   you can pull them apart & releave & regrease  or there could be a bit of broken cable right down inside  left inside about 3 or 4 m.m. long , is the tang still there in the disc to drive it they can shear & not connect proper

^^^ dont know if the drive unit unit is aftermarket or not mate. i dont think it is.

did as hilly suggested and cable is not turning. so im guessing this is pointing to the drive unit. do i need to take off the front wheel to access/fix ? any tips/pointers/things to be wary of when doing this ?

hey Killerchef you could wack the speedo drive in a cordless drill and see if you can get the speedo to read. If you are just spinning it with your fingers and getting a flicker on the speedo the cable could still be broken but engageing enough to read---good luck, cheers Grim
