     Guys,

Just got the 1250 kit installed on my 2011 iron now it there appears a metallic rattle. The strange part is the rattle only occurs when the bike is hot and when I give it a good squirt.

    Anyone else had this problem?

I need some suggestions on what to check, could this be a problem with the workmanship of the install?

    Cheers,

    Clem

Without knowing any specifics it's hard to say exactly but I would suspect it's pinging.  This is common with big bore upgrades, it has occurred on both sportys that I've done.  If it is pinging you can fix it by adjusting the timing.

What fuel tuner did you use after doing the upgrade?

    Thanks kingchops.

I had the NRHS 1250 and Andrew n4 cams I installed.

    I have the SE tuner.

Funny thing is when he engine is cold no noise like a loose screw once say 20 kms in the metallic rattle happens when I become enthusiastic with he throttle.

I will do some research on the pinging possibility.

If this is the case then will need to have it retuned

Clem, where abouts are you from mate? as it will allow us to refer you to a tuner that is close to you to have it looked at....You have spent the money on the hardware DO not skimp on a proper tune, otherwise its all down the drain and you'll be left with a push bike!

    Thanks for the reply's.

P&L did the install and provided the calming feedback. With big bore kits ping does tend to occur especially on hot days, try stick with BP ultimate or Caltex Vortex fuel and shift down a gear so you don't load up the motor and just take it easy on those days. As i did not hear the ping on the 130km ride down to the Gong only after filling up, could just be a bad batch of fuel.

That info dose not sound right to me, i would not be happy with that answer. From what i have seen over the years there are many people out there that claim to be tuners but really all they see is numbers and dont know how to translate that back to what is really going on in the engine. We have late model bikes with EFI that is not from the 90's and have the ability to run our motors under all conditions and temperatures, if somebody has tuned and possibly turned off closed loop then there is your problem, The factory ecu has the ability to be tuned correctly no matter what the combinations and to be able to run it right. Get your bike to a real tuner mate. If you are in melbourne and want a number to a person who CAN tune correctly let me know and i'll pm you.

I had a metallic rattle on me bike at certain revs. Turned out to be a broken clamp on the exhaust heat shield.

keep it cool ,    the people that installed  the kit should have changed the cams  or lowered the comp , you might be able to tune it out ,           retard the timing & riching the fueling , i would be changing the oil @least  20/50 W  is not strong enough esp in summer ,  i dont even use it in winter on anybodys bike

hi i see that N4 andrews are used  inthis,  i use  to use this grind  but not anymore as they pinking easy  can not have any more the 8,8 comp ratio other wise the motor will have a hard time      i have installed about 5 set's of these but stop useing them years ago because of this trouble  , whats the C.Ratio on this kit  higher comp + bigger c.c. =   ? on this cam ,

sorry to tell you the truth,
