    Hi  All,

I plan on building a new stainless exhaust for my bike when it arrives and am trying to work out a few things and source a few parts in advance.

Can anyone tell me what dia the standard headers are? AND...is there a recommended size...or what size do some of the performance systems use (V&H, Toxic etc...)?

    Thanks

    Howard

There is a bit of science in building an exhaust, if you have your heart set on building one it is better to copy one that actually makes horsepower when mixed with the right components, no point making a noisy straight through enviroment raping horsepower killing look at me i`ve got a harley pile of crap because its going to cost a few bucks, Better off waiting till you have the bike, work out your riding style and get it to handle and stop like you want. These are only my opinions, remember loud pipes piss neighbours off.

Have a look at RB Racing site might have some imfo, unless you dyno before & after you won't know if it's an improvement or not,

Thanks guys....I'm not new to building exhausts. I modifed a set of 4 into 1 Camaro headers to fit my 98 Chevy Suburban and then manufactured a full dual 3" stainless system including 'X' pipe.

This site states some header sizes and also has pics to give you a bit of an idea maybe.

The FAQ section at the bottom of the page has some relevant info you'd be intersted in.

    exoticchoppers.com/VROD

2", 2.125", and 2.250" are the other sizes mentioned on some of the other sites.

2 " is the factory header size I think.

Try Googling a few of the relevant key words and see what comes up. Some interesting stuff out there.

Hquick nice you do nice work!

well the V Rod motor would run a much different system as 60 degree watercooled 4 valve car type rods car type bearings. find someone with a Destroyer or go to Heathcote park next meeting take a look at there pipes they are stainless. very loud but you could fit a silenlencer for street.

Thanks for the info guys. I like some of those setups on the exoticchoppers site (thinking something like the 'prowler' series)....and some handy info there. I'm thinking about something with the custom type heat shields. I'll probably polish the entire system for now...and maybe black ceramic coating later.
Looking at doing the entire bike in black with polished wheels and exhaust for now. Thankfully I have access to all of the necessary equipment and materials here at work.
Has to be easier than laying on the ground building that system for my Burb.

Nothing at all wrong with the stock V rod headers they are 2" staino,
Mufflers can be easily modified with aftermarket baffles,
REMOVE the collector between muffler and header pipes and there you have it
modified exhaust which will hold up to any Rego Inspection...

Thanks again guys. Only issue with using the stock headers is I want both to exit on one side like the standard rods. Muscle exit one on each side. Looks too 'Honda'ish' to me. Lol!

ok got few piks of the staino muffla i use and made back in the 90s but these dont have the flange end like on my ol blue softy i done an fitted about 14 of em mate had the dies but the clown ditched em as he said to much trouble to make good numbers an power all threw the whole rev range

nearly forgot if ya go 2inch from the port and then make ya primaries 36inches into a 2into one collector like on the car extractors then 6inches of 2 1/2 into the muffler with a 2 1/2 30degree turnout or down will work pretty good thats wat ive done on a few bombed up rods few yr back

    Thanks for the info....awesome work.
I'm not 'upto date' at all with building bike stuff. I was thinking something like a 2 into 1 as you suggested or a twin system right through?

2 into 1 best way to go on the rods hey actually best on all twins unless ya only after top end speed on the salt or freeway i been watchin here over the last few yrs an cant get over why ppl buy the v and h big shots and the other pipes they make they not as good as hooker headers and bassini but each to their own must be cause they look ok
i gotta do some work on a muscle in next few weeks its got the v and h twins he said he noticed it had better top end but lost mid range a fair bit so im gunna sort the heads abit an see wat happens then

Please keep me informed how the work on te Vrod goes. I'll take your advice and go with 2->1.
Hooker are a good brand and well respected in the US. Would have bought some for my Chev....but would have had to cut them up anyway due to right hand drive and 4WD (front drive shaft/frame rail space issues).
What do you use for muffler packing? Fibreglass?
