I found the ride on my 2010 XL883 Custom very hard - on any trip over 200km I ended up having to get off for a walk around every 15 minutes after the first hour or so!
I was thinking of changing the springs/shocks, but in the interim I ordered a Mustang Vintage Wide dual-seat (US$356 on eBay). Now, my "rear end" problems have miraculously disappeared :)
The comfort is a huge improvement  and I'm so impressed with the seat - and I'm no longer in the market for new springs/shocks!
Off for lunch to Derby tomorrow - 200km each way - to give the seat a full test.

NB: in case it is relevent I'm 185cm (6'1") tall and weigh 88kg (193lb).

Completed a 500km round trip yesterday and the Mustang Vintage Wide was superbly comfortable
Mind you, struck a storm on the way home to Broome from Derby after lunch and the winds were something else - I reckon I was tracking at about 15 degrees from the vertical at times to keep travelling in a straight line! By the time I got home my hands were sore from simply hanging on

yeah I know what you mean, I'm wondering if a wind shield helps with the wind and hanging on for 100+
