Just picked up an 07 Wideglide a week ago and found that the red key on the dash was staying on. I went hrough the diagnostic menu and found 3 faults, one for the front O2 sensor, one for the rear O2 sensor and one for the clutch switch short to ground code (B1154). I reset theb code errors and all was good for about a km or two, then the red key light came on again. I had a look at the diagnostic menu again and the only fault is B1154, the Clutch Switch Short To Ground.
The bike is fitted with a set of Burleigh bars with internal wiring and chrome switch gear. I took the clutch side switch block apart and noticed there is no clutch switch in the switch block like most other Jap and Austrian bikes i've owned. I'm figuring that due to the fact its an after maket switch block the clutch switch has been left out. There is a spot inthe switchblock that looks like a clutch switch could be fitted. Do thegenuine harley switch blocks have the clutch switch in the switch block? Or do harley do something different with their clutch switches?
The real question is, what do i need to do to make it so the red key light doesn't come on for this fault? Is it a case of shorting 2 wires together like on other bikes to bypass the clutch switch? Anyone know the answer?
I had a look for the cables at the switchblock end when i had it apart yesterday but had no luck. I'l have to try find them under the tank in thewiring loom. If i short them out will this work with red key warning light? Or due to the electronics setup will the systemthen think theres a fault with the clutch sitch still? I know it works for the trail bikes but they dot have this electronic setup.
Galbo welcome to the Forum. From the dignostic info, I'd say the ECU is looking for a ground when the clutch is pulled in.It would open when pulled in.
Still have the SE ? I'd love to see a drag race between my 950 and my modified FXDX. So is your WG stock at this stage ?
Edit: changed my logic !! further thinking, if it is shorted, your bike won't start unless it's in neutral, regardless if the clutch is in or not.
Checked out the wiring loom for the clutch side. Seeing as there's no clutch switch, who ever fitted the bars only ran 7 wires to the switch blocks instead of 9. The red/black and black wires for the clutch switch were joined together and pushed back into the frame. So the choice is now live with the red key light or run 2 more wires in the bars and buy the clutch switch and mount it in the switch block tofix the problem. Found the clutch switch for around $20 on ebay.
Well i have resolved the clutch switch problem. The new switched turned up, setting me back $25 as it was the superseded version as opposed to the curret $75 version. The switched fitted straight in, soldered and heat shrinked all the wires and no red key light to annoy me on the dash any more hopefully. I took it for a 5km ride and it didnt come on. Hardest part of the entire ordeal was getting a length of twin doule insulated cable through the internally wired bars. That in itself took about 2 days of swearing and cursing and finally getting a piece of wire through the bars to use as a draw wire, foundthe best piece of wireto use was a bit of stainless 3mm wire rope i had left over from doing my handrails onthe deck. So its all done now so thats the main thing.
I know on the dirt bikes the first thing to go was the clutch and sidestand switches, obviously harley in their wisdom felt the need to connect their switches into the idiot lights so the switches have to stay. At least the XRR doesnt have them.
Yeah mate, same one. Just dont have a ktm anymore, down graded to the xr when we left SEQ. I was wondering what happened to you this time. Seems people are getting to upset on Adv these days.
Went for the xrr for 2 reasons, one it costs less than the ktm to keep happy and second it was mates bie nd he'd sent some dollars on it and hadnt flogged it. Same sort of reason i got the fxdwg, it only cost $16k for an 07 and hadnt really been used. Just put a set of edge saddle bags and brackets on it and thats prob all it'l ever get. Its already got pipes, air cleaner, bars, backrest and rack so its pretty well sorted.
