TTS Progress

    Hi Guys,

As I informed some very helpful Forum members, I would keep people informed of my TTS installation progress into my 09 FXST.

As of this morning, I have completed my 3rd good data/Vtune run and recalibrated the ECM accordingly. I followed the tips and advice from various people, a special mention in despatches to Ozroder for a clear path to adhear to to ensure data base cells collected enough hits.

I am starting to grasp the concept but I am under no illusion that this is and will be for some time a steep learning curve, and while the learning continues it is very time consuming, I still have to check the Cal ID to ensure that the correct cal file is indeed being downloaded.

Gratification comes from the small advances, the feel, the sound and responsivness that you can notice after each run and recalibration. These are not big wholesale "rip your arms out of your sockets" but small noticable increments that you become attuned to.

There is some decel burble from the pipes, but experienced people tell me that this is normal for V&H pipes due to the minimal backpressure design, having said that it is a lot better than what it was pre TTS,  I thought that this was normal!

I need to read more, gain the knowledge in the next step which I think is an understanding of the "spark" timing, the data tables show some 39* and this appears to be massive to the uninitiated HD admirer, but preliminary research says otherwise.

Also, reading some of the USA Forums, I could not but help notice some of thier members conduct anywhere from 3 to 6 plus Vtune runs, I guess that it comes down to what you are looking for and how long it takes to find.

Anyway alls good for now,  I intend doing the mandatory "settle in" kilometers, a bit of space to soak up more info and monitor the iron horse behaviour.

    Cheers all.  Paul.

    Great news Paul
It takes time to master the Vtuning process but that's easy for me to say after a few years practice as well as have a tacho on the bike to monitor my revs as I climb up the rev range. It does not hurt to try a few maps before you get to deep into the tune as some respond better than others. Its best to see what map works the best on your bike before spending to much time on one map. Its a great tool for us home builders as we add parts and then do a few Vtunes to bring it all in line. Enjoy and watch out for the HP/Torque bug because once it bits its very hard to control. LOL
Good luck and keep us posted

Paul you head is going to explode once you get the bug. It is a never ending search for perfection. Mate don't kill yourself chasing small increases. If you are happy with the effort then ride. Also if you get stuck I found a site where you can post you files so they can be looked at by others on here. I used it a while ago coz I was having issues and asked Hilly to have a look. Handy little place as others are able to have a look at what is going on and offer advice.

    Hi guys again,

Thanks for the input, as always you are very supportive.

I am a while away from the HP/TQ bug, I am not letting my ego write the cheaques that my knowledge cannot cash! However Idid fall asleep the other night reciting cam profiles.

Hogbag, I do miss the Tacho, as a matter of fact, one just made the wish list after this last week. I dont have the finesse just yet to play with all different maps, however your reasoning is sound and warrants consideration, if you have a recommendation for a particular Cal. file (must be .MT8 type) that you reason may be suitable for my rig,by all means shoot it off to me.

AJ56, mate very good info, I have not accessed the site yet, I will need experienced heads to ponder over data and I will utilise this offer very soon, I also have some queries that need to be explained, as soon as I get my head around them and then I will present these in an orderly fashion to the forum for you all to tell me how it is.
    Cheers guys, Paul.

The trick is to keep it simple when you're new to the tuning process of VTune. Once you have a good map, run it for a while, in the mean time learn about tuning the other tables that you want to adjust, ie timing, EGR etc.

BTW, did you leave the cam selector as default or did you use the IVO analyser. Just curious as the specs for my cams (Andrews 54H) using the estimator indicated 4 IVO, yet the cam-tune said 2, which I ran with.

    KiwiRob,
I initially sourced info re" stock' cam and adjusted accordingly but it ran like crap so I went with the base Cal file. I eventually performed the Cam analysis ( I should have used this tool to start with but my enthusiasm got the better of me) and low and behold the base Cal file was spot on.
The lesson I learnt here is that the base files have already been worked and are there abouts, no need for wholesale changes, IF you find big numbers when wanting to reconfigure, best to re evaluate and check again.
Kiwirob thanks for the reply, cheers mate,

    Paul.

I pulled three test runs and got 3 & 4 but the 3 was the straightest dotted line. I'm about to change to DPC 176 to try the timing change as that's what been recommended by a few US tuners. I will let you know how it goes.I
