Just wondering what fuel additives if any you guys are using in the older bikes designed for the good old Leaded Petrol?
I've have good results with and Ausy product called Flashlube in an old 1970 Series II Landrover when used with Premium - RON 98 - fuel. It ran like a 3 legged dog on unleaded so I fed it Premium and added Flashlube to take care of the valves. Only ever checked the plugs but they were always nice and clean and after years of service I never had any issues with the valves.
I'm planning on running a 1980 Shovel on Premium Unleaded and Flashlube so would be interested in any experience others have had. I keep a jerry mixed up at home and just carry a bottle of the stuff on the road. 1 mil per litre of petrol at the pump and away you go...just a bit of ginning around and you feel like you are riding a boat mixing fuel at the bowser
Any idea if the US fuel is Unleaded now? This bike is fresh from the states, and I'm told has had a top end re-build so I guess it depends what fuel it was built for.
That said I run Flashlube in my Chook Chaser 'cos it gets a flogging in the brutal Plibara heat and a few tour operators I have spoke to run it in their fleet bikes to increase longevity of the top ends.
The Shovel will get a much easier life than the Berg but I'll probably run this stuff to be on the safe side. It's cheap insurance I guess.
