Hey Guys, thought I would put up a couple of pics of my new 2012 Iron that I got for myself for Christmas. I set myself a challenge of seeing what I could do in the first 24hours of receiving it. I bought it (therefore delivered) with the Screaming Eagle Heavy Breather and the Vance and Hines Short Shots - thank you Gasoline Alley at Springwood.
Modifications include:
What would you do in your first 24 hours. Comments are always welcome.

rich gc.

Have you hit any pot holes yet?
Sorry guys been away from things for last few days. This will surprise some people but have only only riden it about 200 meters so far, up to car park at end of street to shoot some photos and back home again. Why? I only was able to complete my QRIDE assessment for open motorcycle licence on News Years Eve (31 Dec). This means I am unable to get my open licence authorized from Dept of Transport until tomorrow (3 Jan). Man am I looking forward to that.
In relation to the mirrors, they are eBay ones, $80 and $35 delivery for a pair, so roughly about half the cost of the joker ones. Can I tell you they look sweet as. As far as what you can see out of them I will do a review on them after a couple of days use, but they look all right sitting on the bike but not really a good indication. They were a mongrel to put on (with a grub screw, the internals sit slightly off centre) though look pretty good, they are like car side mirrors where you can push the glass to adjust them.
In relatin to the rear shocks I replaced the stock shocks with a pair of ten inch rigid struts, I reckon they will be hard but I like the look of them, the rear fender sits very low over the rear tyre. A problem is that with the rear end very low the bike sits quite upright when on its stand, i will have to buy a shorter stand.
Seat doesn't flow with the style of the bike, also too much space under the seat and the tank.
Noticed you lowered the rear but have a high seat, how is the tyre to rear guard clearance when you are riding the bike.
But each to their own, have a great time with it, great to see you doing what you like.
WildKatz69:
1.First off you will have to cut/drill out the end of the handlebar grips. I used a Stanley knife and small grinding stone on a drill (I don't have many tools).
2. Next slide internal space in and out adjusting the grub screw til it just doesn't fit, tilt the insert slightly and lightly tap in with a block of wood on insert and hammer. Ensure you have the length sticking of the end of the handlebar to match length needed for the mirror to slide over.
3. Tighten grub screw in mirror piece to ensure the mirror doesn't move around easy; ie the harder you tighten the harder you need to push the mirror to adjust.
4. As the insert doesn't sit centrally within the bar, ie grub screw pushes insert off centre. I had to chamfer the edge of the mirror bar that goes into the handlebar so it can be pushed into the bar.
5. Once in, though took a lot of twisting back and forth.
6. Jump on bike position mirrors and tighten external grub screw.
But hey they do look great
Off to dep if transport to get my license and will be on the bike then .
Hey thanks guys. I did indeed get my licence and have only just got home from riding around and a couple coffees and a pizza later.
I spent quite some time checking out the ride with the rigid struts and adjusting and readjusting the side mirrors.
Obsevations from today:
1: QLDs new smart licence ain't so smart - so I go to dept of transport with my smart licence (plastic card with a chip on it) that I received last year. I am told that they will need to send an updated card in the post may take up to 28 days, and I will have to carry a piece of paper with a printout of my licences until it arrives in the post. Hmmm smart licence takes 28 days to update, old licence they printed out a sticker an put it on the back of your laminated licence immediately.
2: rigid struts are indeed rigid - I rode the bike along the route I take to work, not too bad. I rode it around where I live roads are pretty bad and the ride can be felt through your body. I can see a set of lowered shocks in my future - don't need a psychic for that one.
3: Vance and Hines short shots are loud as - they are so loud they would drown out my sister-in-law and that's some mean feat.
4: the concealed bar end mirrors work quite well - though I am still getting used to the smaller vision area compared to the larger standard mirrors.
Scouser, Just tossing up whether I want to hear my sister-in-law or not.
