Hi all, just looking for some advice/suggestions from those more knowlegable people.
Got a week off work in mid February & am looking at taking a ride up to the Barrington tops area with the Mrs. Never been there before but heard its quite nice up there. Not real fussed on dirt or loose gravel roads but would like to take the roads not frequently used.Would like to hear from anyone who could suggest/recommend places to go & see in that area, accommodation & anything that would interest. Any thoughts on timing of the trip (weather) would also be appreciated as well as a suggested route, going from Sydney western suburbs.
Looking forward to any comments you can make.
Cheers, Mick
No way.The closest youll get is Moonan Flat through the back of Scone. Its a top ride and the pub there has 5* accomodation and the restaurant serves damm fine tucker . Just past there its gravel all the way.
G'day mnite54, mate i wouldn't do the Barrington tops road man, it's not council maintained, (forestry maintained) I tell you a good ride, if you've only got a week. Up the Pacific Hwy, to Bucketts Way, through Gloucester to Walcha. Then down the Oxley to Wauchope. All 3 towns have ample accomodation and pubs and clubs. From Wauchope back to the Pacific Hwy and head south or, go out to Port Macquarie and ride down the coast to Kew, then back on the Pacific Hwy. Another alternative is from Walcha, turn left and head for Bendemeer, the pub has excellent accomodation, and a great feed. Then head south down the New England through Tamworth, Singleton and all points in between. They are both great rides. If you do decide to go up to the Barrington Tops, keep your eyes open for Malcolm Naden, $250 000.00 reward man. Good luck with that
Hi boys,
Thanks for your replies to my questions, they were most helpful, & a special thanks to FB Mick with an alterrnative suggestion (one I probably would not have thought of).
I will take all of your advice & can the thought of going up to Barrington tops, spend too much time & money on the bike to have it potentially damaged by a stupid road.
Once again thank you all for your time in replying.
Ride safe, Mick
