Hi Guys,
Just joined the brotherhood with the purchase of my first Harley. I've always loved the older bikes, just personal taste, and after much searching came accross a 1980 Wide Glide.
I joined the forum as 'oldknuckle' as, I was originally looking for a knucklhead, and posted a question about these old Shovelheads. The advice and support was much more than I'd expected so a big thanks to Kiwidave, Chopaweeza and all the others who chimed in with words of wisdom!!
So the bike is in QLD and I live in Karratha so working on getting it up here. She's an old girl and I'm looking forward to learing about how these things work and all the hours in the shed swearing at the poxy thing when things go wrong and singing her praises when I get it right.
Thanks again for all the support so far, I'll have plenty of questions yet, and hope to one day be wise enough to be able to contribute something to the forum for others.
Cheers...Manchild
Thats one, nice looking bike.
Welcome
Welcome Manchild hope you enjoy the forums and congrats on getting your first Harley she is a great looking bike.
G'day Manchild, nice and tidy bike you have, ride safe.
Welcome again.
Enjoy.
Hi Manchild (oldknuckle),
Welcome to the Forum
Photo of a stock 1981FXWG. Main diff with 1980 is the rear brake has a new caliper bracket,
with a better support set-up. Pity it didn't improve the braking performance( Woeful) one bit.
Front brakes were worse I think. Those 10 inch rotors and puny calipers plus a contact patch
the size of a bug's bum. (great looking 21 wheel, but looks don't make you stop!!.)
And then this is where insanity comes in, I'd have one in a flash!!!!!!!!
Cheers,
Cris.
Nice pic Cris. Must admit I got a little excited at the prospect of twin discs up front and, for just a moment, anticipated performance braking...then I remembered it's a Harley! If I was after performance I'd be on another jap bike " align="absMiddle" src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif" /> I'm ready for another bike with character so looks like I am on the right track. I'm still 4 weeks from it getting here to W.A and the wait is killing me! I'll proabaly put some braided lines on etc but want to avoid the temptation to barstadise her too much. Chose this one for being relitively original and I'm sure it will have more resale value if I keep it that way...not that I'm planning on selling it just yet. Paint job might be in order though
