Been hunting around the web for alternates to the long distance HD tanks and stumbled across this product by Mooneyes.  I haven't done any further research to work out whether they're legal in Australia, but will be looking into it over the coming weeks.  Either way, cool idea, they look pretty good and that extra litre of petrol would give you that 30kms to get to a fuel station!!

And certainly more 'stylish' than a jerry can occy strapped to ya rack! A great idea and here's hoping it meets the appropriate A.S. (Aussie Standard).

A mate of mine has made a small tank out of 100mm steel pipe and had it chromed. It is strapped to the bottom front of the frame, so behind the front wheel. Holds about 1.5L and looks sweet as.

I've gone with the Primus 1 litre bottle which was relatively cheap from this website.

Haven't needed it yet, but it's reassuring to know it's there.

Sporty, that is cheap as chips.............does it have a plastic or aluminum lid??

Convert, the lid is aluminium like the body.

Scouser, that was the only position I could find that worked with the bottle holder, had enough room for the bottle and allowed me to strap it tight enough so that it wouldn't move when I rode but you make a good point. I'll check to see how much heat the bottle gets next time I go for a ride.

My issue is I already have the 3.3 gallon peanut tank, not a huge fan of the 4.5 gallon tank; it doesn't look bad................I just like the look of the one on my Iron. Having an additional litre of petrol would buy me 30kms (provided I ride at very very low revs) and would be that get out jail free card!! The alternate is buy a tank that I like, cut a big fucking hole in it and fit the fuel pump etc from my existing tank. RSD do a kit already, however it doesn't work with my model Sporty, I have read a few threads on other websites where blokes have done it successfully, just gotta make sure you get a tank with the right width underneath, a good welder and pressure testing!! Lots of fucking around!!

I like the idea of having a spare litre sitting round, wouldn't use it on most days, but when you get outta town it would definitely come in handy!!

my 2 cents here and assuming you have side/saddle bag like the licks would be to carry the litre bottle in that, then it's away from the exhaust, it is only a stop gap measure...but i do agree still a hazard of sorts, no different to when i ride the dirt bikes i carry fuel in my pack.

The licks bag might not accommodate the litre bottle, so may require 2 x 600ml, but it will still fit your mobile phone and wallet.
