Hi all...I put an S&S 510g in mine recently. It can now pull from 80klm in 6th gear.Much stronger bottom and mid range an will rev easy to 5500 rpm.Its a bit lumpier at idle.

I agree Burto. I spend most of my riding in 6th - mainly because most of my riding is Hwy. 10 minutes from my house and I am on a Hwy. I have been keeping an eye on my tacho and I sit at around 3 grand and never rev the crap out of my motor.

That said, when I do hit the burbs I rarely hit 6th.

Mine is laboring at 100-105 in 6th, i need to be doing 120 for 6th to feel right.
I do have an 18" rear which makes the gearing taller so am going to put a smaller front sprocket on sometime

Ok, disregard most of that previous post.
I'm on a beer stop on a 400k run right now. It's weird, sometimes my bike labours at speeds under 105 on 6th but other days, like today, it seems to be happy in the 80-100 range.
Certainly is better at 110-120 and up, pulls ok from 120 , ok for a smooth slow roll on but for speedier acceleration I always throw it back to 5th or usually 4th.
Why wouldn't you when it doesn't hit the rev limiter in 3rd until 140 and in 4th gear hits it at about 172kmh. Not saying I do that, just did it today so I know.
Good to know that you can safely say hit 120 in 3rd and say 140, 150 or 160 in 4th if you are really going for it.
Keep in mind my bike has slightly taller gearing at the moment.
I don't thinking will change the sprocket after messing around today :) anyway cheers, up ya kilt !!

Hi all...Burto,I dont ride my bike like that either.I was making a point on what my bike is capable of now with the s&s 510 cam.Just pointing out that the bottom end power is substantially better now.Pulls better from 80klm than what it could from 100klm stock.

Havin a bit of a problem with high ccp.............conflicting results with different comp guages but either way Nev has advisd that with the intake closing of 40* with my compression ratio (10.25 or there abouts) I'd be better off with a cam that closes at around 45*. SE-211 fits the bill at 45*.

Maybe goin against the popular builds in the US but as they all say.............find a good tuner and follow his advice!

No need to explain about the choice of tuner in this case I reckon!! so I'm following Nevs advice...............he'd better come through with the goods though, eh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beeza...........love your work!!!.........says it all mate!

Hilly........I'd be more than happy with that HP result, but would hope to see better TQ...........The 6 gave me 114......hopin Nev can at least equal it!

Puttin the pressure on now Nev!!!!!!

Hey lads. So I am getting close to ordering cams and instead of the SE204s I have been advised to go with Andrews 26H. Any opinions on these?? I can't go SE as the suppler I am using does not do SE products so I need an Andrews cam.

Also was told I don't need the sprocket retention kit

Would lie to hear some opinions remembering I ride solo ALL the time and am looking fo that Lumpy idle.

    Cheers

    Yeah thanks hilly.

With so many choices it makes it hard to pick one.

It would be good to see a direct comparison chart and I am sure there is one out there somewhere, or something that shows good info about each cam and the affects on the bike.

Oh man... The more I look, the more I am confused. I found this site that recommends the SE255 for my stick 96.

    "TWIN-CAM 96/103/110 For 2007 and Later Bikes
The gearing of the 2007 and later bikes really prefer cams with very low power bands. Cams that optimize power under 4500 RPMs tend to be much better suited for these late model bikes unless you change the primary or final drive gearing. We highly recommend giving up maximum HP in favor of a lower, broad power band under 4500 RPMs for these bikes."

    Ahhggg!!! This is killing me!!

I run 21H on mine. They come in at around 1700 and over by 4800. When i bought mine everyone was saying 26H but I looked at where I rode my bike and they didn't really suit my ride style so I went with the 21H. They are better suited to 2up riding as well.

My over all thoughts on them is I like them. There are that many out there that you are really spoiled for choice.

Check the spec's on a SE 203 Cam. In my opinion they are one of HD's hidden gems. They original spec's for touring bikes because of the great bottom to mid range grunt. I've got a set in mine & it's pulls really well.

Because I live in the mountains I was after bottom to mid range grunt and the SE profile profile is spot on. In my opinion they are one of HD's hidden gem's as they were marketed for the heavier bikes like the tourers. Check out the spec's as they sound like what you're looking for and give Luke at Harley Heaven a buzz.
NB: Spend a little bit more time and take your pushrods out from the heads. The money you save on buying adjustable pushrods will pay for some of your other bits like bearings and gaskets.

whats everyones thoughts on cam selection for a 2000 heritage ?  slip ons and A/C done but otherwise stock. i want to change out the dodgy cam chain tensioners and fit new cams and torrington bearings at the same time. At the moment i am leaning towards the hydraulic tensioner upgrade kit with the better oil pump, SE adj pushrods and Andrews 26 cams...... any thoughts ??   Most riding is on the highway solo 80% of the time. not after top end just like to make it stronger and more responsive  .
