Wind Gusts

??? Wondering about how wind gusts effect the (touring) bikes with windsheilds and fairing like the Cvo, Road King etc... 'cause on riding my FXST I've done some lean riding (60o) with cross winds and passing on coming trucks, it is like hitting a wall of wind. ???

I have a batwing on my stripped dresser aka roadking and it does a good job .

I sort of expect a buffeting when it is blowing or running past a convoy.
Nothing that a little twist of the throttle can't get you through.

Having the shield on the RK shits me. The wind over the screen has a buffeting effect. I also found I used to look through the screen rather than through the corner, but you get used to that after a while. Apart from that, it can make a long trip quite comfortable in windy conditions ( as well as rain ). In summary, get the correct size windshield for your riding position.

It's not as brutal as you might think and in a Road Glide with fixed fairing to the frame, even less.
The passenger might get the beating since they are higher up on the back seat!

On my FXST I have installed a Memphis Shades "rio" and completed 2 trips over to the eastern states. Would not ride long distances without it, improves stability in all adverse weather conditions, improves rider comfort levels in all weather conditions. I can complete 1100 klm days with the fairing attached and without the fairing I am calling it a day at around 700 klm days and worse for wear, I should add that this is a good day if the weather conditions deteriorate then the klms will be less.
Once when I was in Clare SA I rode through a plague of locusts over a couple of days, the fairing saved much pain! one locust got through, hit my goggles and dislodged the lens. Safety factor of upright riding long distances improves greatly with a fairing.

Looking at screens for my FXST and wondering about mounting options. Do they all fitt on triple clamps? Does it matter what bars you have?

Thanks for all your input guys, I'm not looking at getting a screen, I was just wondering. But I do like the look of fully decked out tourers. If (big bloody IF...) I NEED to be behind a screen... I drive the Jeep. That just how I feel. And I like to hear other peoples reasons for their choices.

I have a batwing fairing with side wind deflectors and a 8 inch and a 4 inch screen. the batwing with a 4 inch screen gets fuck all buffeting from the wind but causes buffeting behind the screen. The side deflectors with the 8 inch screen gives some buffeting from wind but following trucks causes the worst being in and out of the slip stream. I can hear my stereo with good sound up to 110 kph with the 8 inch screen with side deflectors. The 4 inch screen with deflectors causes the sound to be shit house on a windy day. I use the 4 inch screen 90 % (thanks FYO) and the 8 when touring. I where a half summer and 3/4 winter but dont give a fuck what anyone else where's. Let those who ride decide.
