11 mate"s and myself where riding down the hwy in a unorganized group, and seen a hwy cop

car up ahead ! as normal we all slowed down to the speed limit and went around him, as he was

    doing 90kmh in the 100kmh zone !

with in seconds he was up the tail enders arse, pardon the pun

then slowy moved past the group, then his lights went on as he got to the rider

second from the front, this all happened in a matter of seconds, with only

one copper in the car, turned out mates licence had expired 5 days earlier and had just

forgotten to renew it, well cost him a $150 fine and abit bit of paper work, then the copper

let him ride straight home, do not pass go

he ask the copper how he knew so quick and he reckoned the cars have a the new

Automotive Number Plate Recognition unit in them now

There been around for abit now but first time i have come across it up here

guess that's why the copper was doing 90kmh in a 100kmh zone so he could check

    on coming and passing traffic

I'm sure the experts will confirm this on here

Seen plenty of cameras on the side of the road with usually a white or blue van and a couple of police cars a few hundred meters up the road. Haven't seen a mobile one though.
I agree that they should be caught. It's not just the rego etc, but what if they clean someone up unregistered uninsured etc etc?

These thing are not to check that you've paid your rego, thats what rego stickers are for, it's a bit more than that i'm afraid, within seconds they know who you are, what you are, what licenses you hold, what traffic fines you've received, your criminal record, blah blah etc etc ... spose it dont really bother me much, ive got nothing to hide, but there is a whole lotta people out there that do.

I see the point being made about stolen bikes .

guess Ill just never get my head around the whole big brother vibe though .

how long before a little ball with a camera hovers up too you in the street and issues you a fine for saying "faaaark n cuuuunt" after tripping over a bit of raised foot path that the council has neglected to fix .

    just sayin

Yeah i think these things will go a long way in helping to fight real crime such as stolen vehicles, outstanding warrants etc, it may even deminish the need for police to pull you over just to check you out.

Rumor has it that NSW will do away with rego stickers in the next few years. Sticker is now obsolete as all they need is to get a peek at the licence plate. At least it will stop certain ethnic groups famous for typing there own details and numbers on the sticker they get in the mail. It may well be big brother stuff, but the big drama is no rego , also NO INSURANCE!! Agree with vmax though how many times have you looked at the windscreen on the car and gone shit I am up for rego soon!

I have a bit to do with ANPR cameras. It is amazing to sit in a police car and watch how many people drive past that are unrego or unlicensed etc. They maybe catch 10% of the people they see.

They also drive around shopping carparks looking for unreg vehicles...

I don't have a problem with the camera's, what I hate is when they ask you where your going when they pull you over.

What is it with those guys, I don't need to tell you where im going.

Anyway hope they get all those uregistered and uninsured drivers of the road.
