On my 85 FLHTC the indicators only work while you hold down the switch on either control is this normal?? or should they stay on and self cancel

thanks Dave, I’m heading for the rego inspection on Monday if it isn’t raining so will just tell the guy that all 85 Harley blinkers have to be held on to work and hope he believes me and hasn’t read this forum

    Hi Bourkie,
From 82 to I believe 90- 91 the switches had either a hold in to blink (USA models) or a rocker type flick on and flick off (Aust models, and by what Dave said UK models as well) I have seen bikes using the hold in USA switches here. From 92 on they used self cancelling switches. One of these situations where you hold your ground and say convincingly " That's Factory stock set-up."
    Cheers,
    Cris.

Yep alls good Bourkie, the switch has to be held on to work, release the switch and they stop, in america it was/is illegal for the indicators to stay on and thats the best they could do in them day's (pre computer) .... well thats what i was told by someone who should know.

Yep hold em on while you want them on, let go and they are off. Pain in the bum if ya got stumpy fat fingers like mine. I fitted a Badlands Pro 111, this switches them on for 11 seconds and allows you to run LEDs as well.

Well if you guys have '86 bikes with indicators that need to be held on, they must have had 2 different types in '86, because my FXR is an '86 still with original factory switches on it, and after switching on they stay on till they are manually switched off. I think your way is better in some ways though, because I have occasionally forgotten to turn them off, which is very dangerous.
