    2012 FXDF.

    SE Heavy Breather (Fitted)

    SE255 Cams (not yet fitted)

    V & H Big radius 2-1 (not yet Fitted)

SE Race tuner (Not yet fitted)

Once V & H release the pipes for the new FXDF i will be getting the work done.

My question is that a local ex stealer Mechanic has said that unless i fit the adjustable push rods or the SE Perfict Fit pushrods i wont be getting full use out of the cam?

    How can this be?

If you use the original rods with a higher lift cam wont this in fact open the valves further?

The reason for useing adjustable pushrods is to save time and money when fitting new cams. The stock pushrods can be used but the seat, tank, rocker covers, rocker gear must be removed to gain access to the pushrods. It's cheaper to cut the stock pushrods with bolt-cutters and replace with adjustables. The pushrods don't control the valves lift hight the cams do so that's all shit your getting fed.

Have just found out that the Adjustable and the SE Perfect fit pushrods are actually 30-35 thou longer so that explains it.

The original pushrods would not be using the cams full potentiol.

If you go with adjustables choose well.. I had issues with a set of SE tapered adjustables where the lock nuts backed off of 3 of them within 40 k's of installation. Other have used them with no problems at all. I DID tighten them up before I finished the job.
It was a bitch to adjust them on the side of the road, but I did and made it home. On proper readjustment I used some locktight and so far so good after a few thousand k's.

Early ones of these were know to have problems with locknuts but supposedly have since been corrected.

i fit adjustables to nearly every motor but as stated most stock ones can be used for many cam fitted i just put em in so when the owner wants to do his own work he can and if i do it in future i know wat i have to do on a service but i do have a question ozrodder why do ya need to remove the heads to fit standard pushys i dont normally i just drop the rocker gear out and slide em out from the bottom leaveing the heads intact unless im doin a port n polish on em .
on most ov the dynas i dont even remove the tank i take rear moutin bolt out loosen the front a lil bit an lift rear of tank an put a large rubber chock i have and can remove anything i need even the engine .spose different strokes for different folks
    cheers

Adjustable (removable) pushrods can be very handy when you get a pushrod cover oil leak...............makes it a lot easier to replace o-rings!

Be careful though, I bought a set of adjustables and they wouldnt go in, even when adjusted back as far as they could go. I took them back and changed them for a diiferent type, which were of course more expensive. I was then told by the mechanic that not all adjustable pushrods are made to be able to be installed without removing the rocker gear.
