Blocked vent tube?

Hey guys, coming back from the Tablelands on Monday and stopped for fuel. Filled the tank up to level where I always do, cap on started the engine and fuel started to flow out of sides of filler cap. Cleaned up the tank, opened the cap and all looked good. Started it again and the same thing happened. Third time all was good.

Does this sound like a bloked vent line to you guys or something else.    If so I was going to blow some compressed air down the line for a quick fix.

    Anyone had this happen

    Cheers Robbo

Hi all...Robbo T,Possibly the fuel was expanding in your tank. The fuel was probably cold comming from underground and started to expand in the tank as the temps went up.

Yeah more than likely that would be it, but I thought it should have come out of the vent tube before it would come out of the cap.

Talked to my local guy and he said the non return valve that is in the vent tube can get all fugded up in the Nth Qld environment. So I disconnected the valve and blew compressed air from the top where it goes in the tank through to where the valve is, and did the same to the valve.  If it happens again I will just remove the non return valve.  Apparently it should hold the fuel in the vent tube until it builds enough pressure and then release the fuel in the line.

Must be some tree hugging greeny invention.
