Thundermax W/AutoTune is a great  unit, very easy to fit and setup do it yourself.

Get yourself a cable to connect to your computer to down load the maps, also you will need to buy a serial to USB cable as the standard serial cable wont fit most computers these days. Why they still sell serial cables is stupid.

Hi guys, I've had my Thundermax on my Softail for a month now. Just wondering if anyone has had any problems since?

Sometimes when I give the throttle a blip changing down,  I get like what sounds like a carby fart. Other things have happened like speedo needle suddenly dropping to zero with engine & oil light coming on, as well as the security light staying on for more than 5 seconds after start up, plus I think the speedo calibration is out because I've recently received my first ever motorcycle speeding fine which coincidently was the same day I picked my bike up from the bike shop where the tuner was fitted. Further evidence was noted on Saturday when a mate and I were on a ride, riding side by side there was about a 10 - 15 km difference in speed readings, where my speedo was showing less than my mates bike. I rode the return journey by myself and seemed to rounding up and overtaking vehicles with relative ease, sitting on the posted 110 km/h limit. I don't want anymore fines.

What suggestions do you have? Cheers.

I've had my Thundermax with Auto-Tune fitted for 4 years now and it hasn't missed a beat in 40,000 km. However, it DOES have some hiccups!!!! The carby fart happens occasionally when I "wrist-flick" the throttle too quickly on change down. My carburetted WideGlide did the same so I think it's not the computer's fault. The engine light often stays on for many minutes and even hours and sometimes ALL the time. Common fault apparently but try to just get used to it. The full "breakdown" of speedo and all warning ligts showing has happened a few times over the years. It's all a little frustrating as the design is presumably not perfect but I am STILL very happy with mine. Simply switching off and re-starting re-sets the computer and everything runs perfectly again. The road speed indication is a serious worry though. I would go back to the installer and have them re-install the software in case they had one of the settings incorrect. I did mine with a lap-top and it was a breeze even for a non-mechanic/computer nerd so don't let them tell you that's it's a complex problem!!!
Good luck. Once it's working right, don't mess with it. Just ride it!!

Cheers for the comments guys, is there a way I can get a copy of the software, and correct cables etc without having to go back to the installers, it's a bit hard to work around my employment and trying to get it to the installers who are about an hours ride the other side of town though. Plus I assume it will cost me for their time as well. I was researching on the American HD forum and came across a speed calibration thread, apparently you need the right code or something to rectify the speedo. Am I wrong?  Cheers.  Apart from these few gremlins, my bike seems to run a lot better, and sounds so much different, especially on decel no more popping. I still have the baffle in, but thinking of removing it as it's too quiet compared to the rest of my mates.

Well after A LOT of reading and researching, getting to know what was out there in the way of tuners and their application to the bikes I've decided to go with a Thundermax for my '09 Night Rod.

Ended up getting it from EasternPerformance.com for a tidy sum of $825 at my door, great service from the company too, looking forward to getting it on the bike and letting it work it's magic.....just got to decide which exhaust I'll with :)

Eastern Performance are in the States too, couldn't find any reasonable prices local. They're asking price on the website is the RRP, but they also state ring for a better price, a few emails and I got them down to what I was after and made the purchase.

I may tinker with the unit, but I'm more of a set and forget type of person so I think once I've installed the filter, zorst and got the thundermax doing it's thing, I probably wont see it again :)
