I am running in my new softail standard and i have 1400klms on the clock. The other night i had to travel through brisbane city and i got  caught in heavy traffic. After about 15 minutes of stop then go for 50 m and then stop again i could feel the heat comming up from the engine nearly burning my inner thighs, Then i got free and took off on the highway and it cooled down. It was about 25 degrees. Would i have done any damage to the engine since i am only still running it in?

Soon after your first service or at first service get a stage one Air Cleaner, slip on muffs, Sepst tuner and a good synthetic oil & your heat probs will be no more or at least greatly reduced, bonus is a heap more horses....If you get it done by a dealer warranty should not be an issue...

Methinks that in the long run that excssive heat will have a detrimental effect on the engine...Partic if you ride a lot...

You, Mr Vetman,  are in serious trouble, with temps you have achieved you have without doubt done permanent damage to the inner left Petuary Crank Valve and also certainly both the units upper & lower bearings.

No amount of clean oil or care will now prevent this suffering catastrophic failure in the near future and without doubt, it will happen during a hot summer run.

Harley have been well aware of this issue for some time and have done nothing - as is usual HD policy they pretend it does not exist.

    Good luck to you!
