Anyone got one on their bike, need to replace the smashed remnants of the dicky plastic holder the dealer fitted & was looking for ideas.

If ya got one fitted, is there a preferred position as opposed to a legal one.

    TIA

Most people have them mounted to the bottom or top of the number plate.....and they are perfectly legal

well for good or bad I fitted one at the very bottom on the frame just behind the front wheel, where the dealer had fitted the original one.

Only time will tell  if the blue light brigade do me for it.

Have one mounted top of numberplate. Bracket needs slight adjustment so it will sit above numberplate and can be turned to face out.

in N.S.W. the rego label has to be at the rear of the bike,so if you have it mounted to the front of the frame, then you are leaving yourself open to being pulled over, and who knows what they will find if they pull you over.

That's strange, the dealer had fitted it in the same place that I have fitted it, that's how it got smashed in the first place. might spend a bit more time playing around & try to get it at the rear near the plate.

Yeah spent 25 years as an authorised registration inspector, know heaps of people that have been booked for the label not being where it should.Had a H'way patrol car chuck a U turn and come after me,because he said he couldn't see my label when he went past, told him to look on the other side.........lo and behold....there it was

sounds like a great way of attracting unwanted attention, as if the pipes won't do it alone, might look at putting the big flat sucker on somewhere it won't look out of place.

i put mine in plat plastic holder top of the frame above the oil cooler.... so far so good. those tubes have only been introduced recently and i think they look awful. .. the cops won't know the difference between an 08 model with the stupid tubes and an older bike. .... but i do like the concept of a stainless alloy - Shogun do you keep yours mounted above licence plate ?

Mine was mounted on the screw behind the seat on top of the rear guard......during my last booking the cop informed me that this was illegal and i could be booked..I figured that the Harley shop that put it there knew more about what was legal and what isnt..turns out the cop didnt know shit..

I live in ACT & every year the rego labels are a ghastly bright colour, so I wanted to have it out of sight but not with one of those tube things. I have a Dyna & didn't want to mount the rego label in the hole near the apex of the frame tubes at the front, which is where it was when I bought the bike.

Underneath the finned black regulator at the front of the bike, just above the front engine mount, is a rectangular plastic cover with some Deutsch style connectors in it. It splits apart at the bottom and is nice and thick, around 3mm. So I drilled a hole through the plastic and put a bolt thru there to mount the rego label holder nice and low. Now it covers the front engine mount, and you don't notice it on the bike.

I guess if the cops ever pulled me over & said "where's your label?" I could legitimately ask them to kneel ....!!

Thanks ShogunRob, you whetted my appetite, so after calling around I found one up at Pacific HD in Gosford, nice billet alloy jobbie.

So that should be one less reason for the highway nazi's to pull me up.

checking the tyres on saturday and what do ya know .. the fuckin rego has disappeared from the top of the down tubes ! come up with an ingenious idea. find an old plastice frame bolt it on the side of the number plate and then snap off at the bolts - if i evr get pulled over by the cops I will point to where the rego was and tell em it was there when I last looked.
