well said Davo, i have been a member of HOG since i got my first harley in 2004 but I have only been on a handful of rides, i prefer solo but it has nothing to do with HOG. I have all my patches but they are in a box somewhere. likewise i have been a member of this forum since about 2000 members but i dont maketoo many comments. i reckon each to their own i ride in the rain I ride in the sun and i stop for hail (it fucking hurts when it hits you) there seems a lot of personal abuse on this site, seems some of you Princesses need to toughen up.

Yes, am a member of HOG, but no longer a local chapter. I paid up for the member ship (local  chapter + HOG int) , it was not included with my bike.

I have been to the dealer ship twice on weekends when the rides were on, just to see  how they did things, work out who to see , sign up with  etc if i did do a ride. Basically, I did some basic home work frst. Club secretary and treasurer - nice people, advised of how things went, where to park, who to see and follow. Asked if I knew the convoy rules ( I do, same as my old 4WD club  basically. ) .  About 10 minutes before the ride was due to depart, in come 5 or 6 riders who then go around like they belong to some biker group and then start yelling for every one to get in line , gear on in 5 minutes etc. Then at departure time the trip took off.

 I was so GLAD I wasn't with them. The way the 'biker' guys took that convoy out was not so much dangerous, but they hadnt check for any newbies, if any one had any problems or needed any thing to be considered  (ie , first time out on new bike, running in new engine , carrying first time pillion etc) , plus flagrant disregard of road rules . Talk about wanne be bikers- yuk!

The first weekend like that was 'ok, that wasnt good, have a look again in two weeks time'. So I did, different road crew, same attitude.  Ended up never going on a ride with them.

I went for a ride with a Ulysses chapter. Got welcomed, asked about my riding ability, trip needs (none) and advised of who the road crew were and where they would LIKE me to sit in the convoy. All pretty much as I would expect. A quick run through by the trip caption on convoy rules for every one and off we went. I got ragged about having a Harley- you get that(there was two other HDs there, we all got ragged the same way). But they ragged the guy on the 650 scooter, the captain got laughed at for getting his boot laces caught in his pegs. Nothing rude or harsh, just a bit of a laugh.  At the end of the ride I was politely told I did well and had kept up and they would be happy to have me ride with them again.  

But I moved just after that and the chapter is now too far away to get to for an easy day of riding. I havent tried any groups locally, Ulysses or HOG .

I am still a member of HOG Int and Ulysses. Not a member of any local HOG chapter. Got a lady that loves to pillion . We have  some people that like to ride with us some times, but mostly we ride alone. I nod to all who I can safely, the missus waves to all - unless she has gone to sleep or is taking a photo (yes, she has done both as a pillion rider! )

I will join a group or club if I find one that suits me, (haven't yet) until then we are happy as we are.

If you saw me ride you would probably class me as one of those 'useless' riders. if you want to go screaming past, no worries, but give me a chance to see you and get out the way. In no way do I enjoy knee scraping rides. I have ridden my ZL1000 for years, the Sportster for a year. I just like to trundle along , rarely faster than 100kph. But that is how I ride and enjoy riding. Just because I dont ride like you, doesnt mean I cant.

Yeh, I agree Hesh, I always give a nod to all riders, i dont care what their on. Will always take the time to have a natter when stopped at the servo. I like to think of it as karma. Happy riding.

Your right Ol Skool, there are arogant shits in all clubs and the arsehole you described fucks it for the genuine riders. I've experienced similar and turned away shaking my head....but...there are some genuine nice blokes and new riders experiencing the thrill of a sportster at an advanced age and to assist these guys and gals in thier dream is worth all the critisism, and putting up with all the bullshit politics....yeah I'm a Hog and I see shit going on and on but if you look for negatives...wow...you find them so easily, but hang on, this mob do do a lot of good, but most importantly, nobody is forcing me..or you to ride with anybody...most decent riders would be overjoyed with the help you offered, I know I would and most would willingly help any rider in trouble, so you make a good point but f'wits like you came across are f'wits wherever they are, poor barstards, forget them, you are better and happier anyway..........

never been on a HOGS ride nearlly didnt once but just too many people like to ride in small groups . got to say the people I have met that are in HOGS all have been nice even the pumped up ones. everyone can be an arsehole at times so look for the good

hey brush dont take this the wrong way but in my post before i had the rude cunt in the rain i made the comment that we shouldnt tar all with the same brush .i havent said they all cant ride ect either i did say most ive met are gooses or fuckwits but that may be about 20 or so as i dont normally accosiate with em or if i went to a bike shop in brissy ect when i was rideing more than i do now most would leave or move away as id have my colours on or id have a club shirt on .i had that happen alot as i used to do alot of work setting up the best an most fun bike show in brisbane THE BRISBANE STREET N CUSTOM BIKE SHOW i got alot less shit from the tattoo shops when seein them about the BRISBANE TATTOO SHOW ..i got few mates seein as im now an old cunt as my dad says lol in i call em the useless sissies lol but they love bikes an enjoy the ride
