Insurance and Bike Modifications

Just wondering if anyone else has had this conversation with their insurance company. My RKC is up for rego and comprehensive insurance renewal. So I have rang a few insurers for quotes. One of the questions asked of me is do I have any modifications to the bike that might not comply with RTA ( NSW) regs, specifically have I changed the pipes. This question popped up as soon as I mentioned its a Harley. Seems they are not keen on insuring it with such mods done, and the consultant stated that they could refuse any claim if the bike does not comply. Seems to me that there may be a lot of people riding around who are not insured if this is the case. Even my partner and I have a Dyna with Short Shot pipes If this is so I might as well not insure the wifes bike, as it certainly does not comply!! Any views on this or am I just being Paranoid  (again )

Firstly I am not suggesting you do anything I say, furthermore I do not condone bullshitting for the sake of maintaining insurance - BUT.
I obtained two quotes for my Dyna today. One was 2400 dollars and one, was 600 dollars.

Mods like pipes are one thing, whereas
chopping, increasing rake and trail are another all together.

When I insure something, I insure it with the full knowledge that the bolt on parts on it are complementing the bike I own. If I don't own the bike I don't own the parts.

Ergo if the bike is a total loss - they pay me according to what I've declared. If its a stack, it's cleaned up and presented for inspection and repair.

We all keep our stock parts, don't we? ;-)

Try Swann insurance, they insured my Fatboy with pipes +AC,103 engine and other chrome accesories for around $900. All in writing on the policy.

Yeah Moose if its not on the policy they will not replace it and if the
Loss Adjuster from said company feels the vehicle is modified the
    policy can be cancelled.....

Yes I too am with Swan and I have a $7000 clause for bling, if you go this way I suggest that you will get the best deal through a Harley dealer, I rang around and finally settled with Dandenong saving me $350.00 off my quoted renewal...hope this helps
