    Hi Guys and Gals,

After my third trip across the nullabour i have decided i need a little more power in the lower revs for taking off ,with all my gear i carry on my bike, take of needs a little more power and better acceleration in the lower ranges.

What i am thinnking of doing is replacing the cams, I dont need a cam to give me more top speeed, as i am happy with that.

I need a cam with a better launch and pull at lower revs and for the speeds between 0 - 120 KMH.

I have looked at SE 203 & SE 254 E kits,My bike has the SE Air Breather & SERT, plus vance & Hines Pipes, apart from that it is stock in the heads & rest.

I really dont want to replace the heads or barrels at this satge, as pleanty of life left in the ones on my bike

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated, any ideas on cost would also be appreciated.

I hope this makes sense with what i am trying to achieve.

    Cheers

Many thanks Steve, Stix,Hilly  for your help,it gives me some ideas to research & look into plus price.

I really just need some more pull in the lower revs  ,as i am happy with top speeds, its just take off and under 80 KMHs she is sluggish.

Am unable to afford a big bore kit at this stage, otherwise may of gone down that road.

Do any of you guys have any tips when insatlling new cams, for what  parts should be replaced  to make it a better install & maybe any idea of cost of how much ( i Know I Am Pushing It) ?

    Again many thanks.

Lifters are easy, Comp Cams 850's for mild lift. I'm using them, and all good.
If your keen to do the work yourself, plenty of help here to talk you through it.
But you need to buy/borrow some special tools, that will add to cost.

That's where it gets tricky.  You buy them as V thunder for Harley at around $15-20 each, but they have the same part # as the SBC lifters. I also have some 875-1 travel limited lifters for my next build with 625 Cams.

850-1 are the standard lifter I'm using now, the 875-1 are the travel limited lifter.

Hey Guys & Gals, again many thanks for your input,It has really made me think outside the square with this one and given me plenty of options to consider.

So really,if  I  change the cams, I have to change the pushrods also , from what i gather i also need to add=

Adjustable Pushrods, new lifters, now here is  the BIG cruncher (again), i see that some of HD say use a timken bearing, is this really needed????

As i dont trully understand why a Timken bearing is needed against the standard roller bearings, was there a flaw with the standard bearing setup which the timken corrects??? Does this timken bearing make it a better setup??

PS any suggestions of good HD mechanics in Melbourne (Mordialloc Area)may also assist as i dont really have all the equipment and space to do this one at home sad to say.

Many thanks again to you all for your help in advance.
