I've only had my 2010 XL883C for under two months (and it's still under factory warranty).
Since I picked it up my fuel warning light has been totally erratic and seems to come on whenever it feels like it, sometimes only 10km after a fill! Trouble is I live 2,200km from the nearest dealer (which is the one I purchased the bike from in Darwin).
However, the dealer checked with factory, identified that this is a known warranty issue, and has arranged with my local (Broome, and non H-D) motorcycle mechanic for delivery of the replacement fuel sensor unit (part # 75302-07b) and installation.
I don't know whether it will work but am very happy with this dealer response. BTW: I'm talking about Northern Territory Motorcycle Centre
Had some trouble with my Iron a while back, turned out that pushing the connection underneath the tank fixed the problem right away. Worth a try anyway!
Good service from your dealership, tho.
Cheers

Your a long way from the dealer, get them to pickup the bike, but they won't do that.
Or you could have a good ride back to the dealer and this will run the bike inn a bit more also, could be just an fix like a connection. Or just get them to fix it when you take the bike back for a service. Anyway hope you resolve the issue, nothing worse than a new bike with problems.
