    Hi all,

    I am in Victoria, my name is Wayne.

    I have joined the Forum to research info on building a chopper/custom bike from the ground up.

    I am not sure if this task is something I could do, or even afford.  But I wish to learn from other members and make an informed decision.

    I have had bikes for years, but recently none.  The only HD I owned was a '80 Wide Glide a few years back now, and it was not the greatest bike, it was a problem machine.  I think those years when AMF owned HD a lot of the bikes were not the best.

    What I am thinking is to get the parts over time, slowly building the machine, but in a style I really like.

    250 rubber, on the back, raked and stretched frame, very low look, almost a rigid frame look would be what I aim for, but with the custom frames around now, a ridgid frame is not needed for the look I am thinking of.

    Thanks for reading this.

    Thanks for the welcome's. Did a lot of reading today, and I honestly think I can do this. So I am going to give it my best shot. This is what I have learnt today from reading;
    *Do not buy a kit bike from the US.
    *Learn all the rules and reg's about Individual Constructed Vehicle for Victoria and Australian Design Rules.:
    Things like sharp decorations on frames may look great but they are not passed in the ICV inspections. The rake of a frame is of great importance, at this stage I think a rake of 35.5 degrees is about the maximum that you can go to comply with the 550mm rule. Must have the MSO and engineers report with a frame. All fittings must be ADR okay.

    I think I will start looking for a frame, to suit a 200 wide tyre max. With a rake of 35 degrees. Suit a Evo or later.

    Lots to learn, but I am in no rush. I will post up in the appropriate section once I purchase a frame and get a basic design down.
