TC88 Cam Chain Tensioner & cam upgrade suggestion...

Got another question as my knowledge in regards to engine internals is non existant.

Wih my bike about to click over 100,000 k's and the previous owner known to not really look after it, I have heard the cam chain tensioners can be an issue? I don't kow if the previous owner had them replaced or whatever I'll get someone to look at them but I'm thinking that if they do need replacing I could get a cam installed just to give the bike a bit more pep.

Don't need anything over the top as the 88 goes pretty good, just a slight increase in low end and mid range if that's acheiveable?

Any suggestions? Bike is a 2000 Dyna.

I take it you dont want to touch the top end at all ?
If the bikes got 100k on it, I would definately go to the newer style Hydraulic tensioners, which mean's a new Cam plate and oil pump.
Then you need the "Conversion" Cams to suit.
If your pretty happy with the power, but want a little more , maybe look at Andrews Tw26.

G'day guys, thought I'd wait to respond hoping for some more suggestions but the info is great.

Humongus, that's what I'm looking for I guess, if you don't mind what did something like that set you back parts wise?

Just got a quote today from the Harley dealership to supply and fit the new SE hyd tensioner to my 2001 Super Glide the price came to $1378 now is this good or bad, but it's got to be cheaper than a motor rebuild if the old system fails cheers.

    Very nice price Ol Skool.

What would you charge to fit hyd tensioners, oil pump, cams etc as per our posts above? Just a rough ball park figure on labour...

I would love to learn this stuff myself but am shitscared ill fuck something up even though I can follow instructions pretty well, nice if there was a worksnhop where you could learn as you go with someone showing you the correct way, someone had that idea floating around here i think.

I was looking at going to gear driven cams but what is this crank shaft run out I read about, some are saying if the run out is to much you can't fit the gear drive cams is this right.

Also the price of the gear drive cams I been told is about $950 then the oil pump should be beefed up as well another few hundred bucks I am just confused which way to go, maybe I should of bought another evo lol.

Thanks everyone who helped for the advice, it will be done but in Melbourne instead of Queensland. Cheers.
