Hi Guys I have an 85 EVO running rough with a bit of popping at idle, I have cleaned the carb and set the float at 16.5 mm the compresion is 125 psi instead of the 90 psi listed in the book should I be using biger jets to get the it to idle?
when I got the bike it had 14.5 mm float and fouling plugs because of the rich mixture
Cheers
Hi Dave it is the FLHTCL no baffles with std mufflers 125 psi on both pots, clean fuel, clean new plugs, I have just driled out the cap on the mixture screw but cant start it till my son gets up at 330pm as he works nights mine drilling
Cheers,
Peter
stock carb
Thanks dave,
at the moment the bwhen hot the idle stays at 1000 rpm for about 40 seconds then drops to 450, will let you know how it goes later on
love that andrews catalog! will be ordering the pump upgrade ASAP
that model has shit inlet manifold set-up if it;s still stock they were a 3 peice set-up called complyance, if it still has that replace with a S&S of a B carb as these fit straight up bolt pattern etc, or if it has the later manifold replace the inlet rubber seals to the cly head to inlet manifold if there over 5-6 yrs old they will be stuffed & leaking air, can run good cold & then stuff-up when hot as the EVO grows with heat expansion up to 2 m.m. from hot to cold when hot they leak . test flood spray some WD40 @ the seal when hot with the motor running & the idle rev's will rise
I tested for leaks with LPG and had no change so it may have had new rubbers before I got it,
Thanks guys for the help, she is running just so nice just ticking over at 1000 RPM and so responsive any idea on who to see for the ramjet manifold
if it's running the stock early 3 piece manifold get rid of of it , even if it have the later type still put 2 new seal's in against the cyl head then you have a starting point, it will cost about 8 buck's + & 1hr's work
thanks mate will do
