    Any recommendations?

I'm new to ironheads and trying to put a '79 sportster back on the road.  Seems to be a lot of places only interested in selling trinkets and accesories and shiney bits for up to 10 year old bikes out there.

Would like to find someone around sydney that keeps a few gaskets and bits and peices onm hand for the oldies.   Some are happy to order them in from the states.. but hey, i can do that, and for half the price.  Just means a two week wait but if I'm after a $5 gasket?

need the gasket that goes over the footpeg shaft on the inside of the primary cover?

    Recommendations?

    I'm on the northside.

    thanks

    Toby

i dont have much of an idea about the older bikes but the gasket u r after can it be hand made from gasket paper n a small ball peen hammer? gasket paper can be bought from any car spare parts place put a bit of grease on it to help seal it up. hope this helps

    Thanks Jim, I'll do that.
I thought maybe it was a particular thickness. Without any gasket in there when I tighten up the foot peg mount tight, the gear shift starts to bind. Like the cover is distorting or something.
Any way I'll give a thick paper gasket a try.

i know this is an old post, but if you need ironhead parts in Sydney, i get all of my parts for my 1977 ironhead from C & R Engineering in Revesby, Ph:02 97738543,  Sydney, they have a lot of parts in stock and always have gaskets and seals for Ironheads.

    Thanks brett,
I recently discovered C&R and I concur with you. I'm looking forward to my next visit out there and the slow but sure sorting out of the many "features" my 79.
