I seem to be chewing through the juice at the moment, getting 170-180 kays out of a tank before the low light comes on.
Bikes been serviced not long ago, its got a thundermax, S&S slip ons, and a big sucker air cleaner. Is this about right? Just seems to be fairly low mileage
What did you get before it was serviced? Seems to be sucking up a lot of juice.
I can get about 320- 350 ks before the light comes on, but it depends on the size of you tank. My tank is a little over 18 litres. How big is yours?
Cheers
Same here Thomoj ust under 200ks and light comes on
Mines in the shop at present in an attempt to find WHY it's using way too much fuel. Add to this the after market fuel tap with NO reserve on it and yeah, it's a drama.
Got caught out once just after I got it ("hey Mum - it's me - please bring the mower fuel...") and last weekend juuust made it to a bowser when it started to splutter on the highway. Coz no reserve is NO reserve.
My ride, FXST 07 & I was getting around 300ks, (before light) out of a tank using 98oct shell, in August we (wifey & I) went from Warwick to Albury, and back I used BP ultimate 98oct and got 320 + . In November we went to Dubbo and back from Warwick 320+ (Warwick to Moree 322km, just under 1/4 of a tank left according to the gauge, so the types of fuel makes a difference too.
I mentioned piss poor fuel consumption on my Springer in another thread and Bangkok Bob mentioned he'd installed a 'Yost Atomiser' to his carby and was getting better consumption. I'd never heard of these so I Googled 'em and found a similar product called a 'Turbulator'.
As I understand it an atomiser vapourises the fuel as it enters the carby whereas a turbulator 'swirls' the fuel as it enters the carby. Whatever. but I found many happy customers for both products on several forums. Anyone here tried either of these?
Anyhoos, as my bike is in the shop at the mo - and he has a turbulator in stock for I think $30 - I've asked he install it whilst the carby's off.
Here's hoping for better mileage!
2009 softail std with SE race tuner Se aircleaner mod and S & S slipons got 20 - 21 km per litre. That was over a 2000km run. Sitting on 110 - 120km per hour.
Thommo, you mentioned the Kays but not how much fuel you used. Could be the fuel sensor is out of whack.
My light comes on at about 160km, the needle is under a quarter, and I,ve pushed it out to 260km with the needle on empty for ages, and theres still a coupla litres in there. Work out your milage and check that against your tank capacity.
