    What's a good allround aftermarket cam for a 96".

I know the SE204 is very good but I refuse to buy harley shit because of internet ban.

Was looking at the Woods TW-400-44 but I don't know anyone with these to give me feedback & valvetrain noise is the other issue.

Andrews 37H & 48H look ok as well but again I have no one I know run these either.

The bike is a softail springer classic with just SE A/C & V&H 2:1 big radius

Not interested in going 103 BTW

Can anyone who has run the above or any other worth noting give me some feedback please.

Thanks for any input in advance.

Stock 96 I would be tossing up between the Wood tw6 or Andrews 54h. I would install a +4 timing sprocket on both these cams to bump the compression up.

Are you prepared to pull the heads, or just want a bolt in ? Where do you want the power ?
The TW37 is proven, but needs ( likes !) some more Comp'.

I went Andrews 26 without any other changes and am pretty happy

    Guys thanks for reply
Thought I might get away with the 37H.
Defineatly no pulling heads, otherwise 54H would be a goer
Skulz - was the Woods 408-44 just a bolt-in or did you have other stuff done to it.

Hi Ozroder, I am interested in your comment about the Woods 555 needing compression?

Fuelmoto did some extensive testing on the dyno with the Woods 6-6 and the 555 as a "bolt-in" cams and the results were amazing.

Here is the dyno chart showing both cams bolted into the same bike - stock 96" with pipes and a/c on the same dyno.

Just bumping this, as I’m looking for cams for my 96” stage 1 Fatbob. I’m thinking 204s. I don’t want to take it past stage two, but my mechanic says he doesn’t like the adjustable pushrods, as when you cut the old rods, he reckons you can damage the lifters. So if he has to strip down to access the top end, is it worth changing compression and running different cams?
I’m not revving the fuck out of my bike all the time, so after something fairly consistent throughout the rev range. Also read that the 204s are more suited to heavier bikes?
He doesn’t have access to a dyno and I don’t trust the Harley shop up here in Darwin with their dyno. I’ve got the se pro tuner and he is a well respected Harley mechanic, who knows how to use the tuner. He’s Japanese, so it’s a bit hard to understand sometimes. Haha!

I know there’s a thousand cam posts out there, but there’s so many opinions out there, I thought I’d put it out there again. Cheers Blokes!

Cheers mate, yeah he did say he only had to lift the rocker covers, just something about when you cut the rods with bolt cutters it pushes the rod both ways, putting extra pressure on the gear. I didn’t understand how it could do much damage either? Just one of those opinions and arseholes things I suppose, everyone’s got one.
How easy is it to map and tune non SE cams with the Super Pro tuner?

What’s the torque range on the 255s? Got another mate who said 211s, but I heard you need to adjust compression for the best performance with them? So many differing opinions!

be careful looking at American Dyno figures, they seem to be producing way more of every thing than we get here in Australia.

I'm on a jetboating forum. It's the same with Kiwi GPS. They always indicate their boats are going faster than a similar boat / GPS in Australia.

Exactly, can not compare,, but be careful saying that in here, last time I mentioned it, the dyno expert police shot me down

Just bumping this again. Does anyone know where the fuck I can source cams in Aus? I’ve looked for various SE’s, Andrews etc and come up with blanks everywhere, eBay, google, etc. Will I have to import? Thought I could source them somewhere in AUS, but maybe not??.

Forum sponsors https://www.easyr.com.au/road-bike-parts/engines/valve-train have S&S and Andrews listed.

I recently fitted Andrews 48H to my  stock 96 Softail ( S&S slip ons, K&N SE air cleaner, TTS tuner) when I changed my cam chain tensioner shoes (77,000kms-  The shoes were still OK). Also fitted SE quickee adjustable pushrods and SE lifters, replaced inner cam bearings with Torringtons and rocker lockers to the rocker shafts. Love the result. Bike feels strong, especially in the hills and 2 up... pulls really great. I don't need a "top end" cam. My engine was quite noisy before doing the upgrades. Now it's very quiet in the top end and cam chest (noisy old lifters perhaps?). Bought the cams thru Direct Cycle Parts US$224.00 + $50 freight.
