Hi guys, ive spotted a 1984 FXWG Shovelhead (belt final drive) for sale. Is there anything about these very last shovelheads I should know about or be cautious about?
cheers for the advice!
good old motors, i have one and if you look after them they are ok,just dont expect to run with the newer stuff, but with right cam, carb etc they go quiet well, good luck
the bike is on bikesales.com, here it is CB104421
the owner has confirmed its an 84, not a 1986 (not sure why its advertised as a later model)
but ive been told its never had Aus registration, it only has import papers. which means i need to get it egineered first, such as the speedo, lights, mirros & exhaust (for emissions, is that correct?)
even thought its a bit of a treck, sydney is a closer place for me to look for a bike. 2 80's model shovels have popped up on ebay today (a fxe super glide & a sturgis) I've sent the 2 a msg hoping I can see each bike on the same day!
hi, the best model shovel made 1984 has evo style forged narrow flywheels & droped forged con rods with german made pistons stock, pistons would or could be replaced buy now with aftermarket brands ?, the rear 4spd trans drive pulley sits on a weak spline centre & wear's out ( i think andrews make 1 , the nut is thin & cums loose you can replace it with the later thicker nut
thanks everyone, you've given me something to think about and some points to raise if i have the chance to fly out & see the 84 FXWG. If not Ill have a few more things to look out for if a journey down to Sydney to check out some bikes.
Im planning to work on the bike and bob it out. similar to this one, but in my own sort of way
