Washed my bike today then went to go for a ride and what do you know, I turn the key and nothing but the figgin alam goes off.

Wheeled the bike back into the garage with the bloody alarm going off,  tried a couple more times to turn on the ignition with bike on stand and nothing but the bloody alarm.

    Has anyone experienced this?

    Hey KC,

check the battery in your FOB. had this happen......coincidence maybe that it occurred when you were washing yourbike, but the battery in the FOB may have gone flat.

    Cheers

    RT,

Scotty - yeah, would seem like that's the case.

RT - Just did that, I was sure to keep water away from the electricals, but just gave them a drying just in case.

Mick - thought the same thing and I tried both fobs, but the same problem.

I noticed that the red flashing light that's normally on when the alarm is armed is not on now, and I can't seem to disarm the bloody thing.

Try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting.Could also be caused if the battery in the biked has gone open circuit or had an internal short circuit, what is the voltage at the battery, and what does it drop down to if you put the lights on?

Had a similar problem with my bike a couple of years ago. Was just getting harder to start. Bought a battery tender I think it's called. Checked and tightened the terminals, fitted the leads for the battery tender and haven't looked back. The battery is the original one from new. Now going onto 9 years old.

Now that I've said that It'll let me down tomorrow.

Hey Kingchops, Check your relays maybe...

TT322 – July 26, 2007 - 2007 XL Models with Discharged Batteries or Very Low Voltage 2007 XL Models with Discharged Batteries or Very Low Voltage

Harley-Davidson has found some ’07 Sportsters where the batteries are going dead after a night of sitting. The root cause is water intrusion. Water can run down the harness, funnel into the fuse block area, and then bridge the system relay contacts. The system relay has constant power available on the 30 terminal.
When the system relay is activated, power goes to the ECM, and then the ECM sends power out to the IAC. The IAC will then run until the battery is fully discharged.
To prevent this issue, Electrical Contact Lubricant (p/n 99861-02) can be placed on the terminals and base of the system relay, and the receptacles at the fuse block. This will create a water barrier once the relay is installed into the fuse
    block.
Motorcycles exhibiting this condition could also have corrosion present, and if necessary, should have the relay terminals and receptacles cleaned with a wire brush or replaced.

see Lube does fix things lol

and to think women give us men a hard time when we suggest getting the lube out

now we can say a woman has suggested lube fixes the issue ..thanks sportytrace

ps ... lets not get bogged down in specifics here ..just enough to say "lube" not electrical lube

    nobody / mick,

Yes there has been a fairly consisten cold snap over the last couple of weeks, that can't help matters. I've got a battery tender on the way I'll give that a go for a couple of weeks if it does't come good I'll go get a new battery.

I was going to mention that Scotty, but some probably wouldn't realise what they were hearing, and quite often when you get off the bike after a ride, all you can hear is the metal breaking and crackling as it starts to cool down

Had the problem happen to me today.Checked battery voltage and it was fine, headlights were bright with ignition on,put battery charger on battery and it didn't make any difference also connected jumper leads off the car to battery, still no difference. So I decided to look what could have caused the problem,as I had just been out all morning on the bike with no sign of any problem.1st thing I noticed was I had my phone in the same pocket that I had my fob for bike,I never used the phone and it never rang,BUT phone still emits  a magnetic field.I also noticed thet I had the fob for the car in the same pocket,as I had just moved the car so that I could put my bike away.Went inside and grabbed the spare fob and tried again, the bloody alarm still went off, tried a few more time with the same results. Then bingo,it went back to normal, turned off bike and tried with the original fob and it worked ok as well.I am thinking that having either a mobile phone or another Key fob from another vehicle in close proximity to the Harley fob is somehow confusing the system on the bike.

Had this problem with my fat boy, as soon as I turned the bike on the alarm would start, tried everything with no joy.
Eventually turned to the fob, replaced battery still going off
After a while I noticed there's a little prong inside the fob that was facing the wrong direction.
Flatened it out put it back together and no problems. Things like this usually are a fob issue apparently
