I ride a Night Rod Special 2010,

I  had a 883 Iron before that,

I use to be called  Iron Lady, !!!

Now I think I need a new name...... .Any idea's ?????

Any one going south for the HOG National Rally ??

Has anyone one any info about the Night Rod Special using a lot of oil,
I bought it from NSW & had it freighted over to WA, it had 600 k & was running rich & like shit when I got it,
At that stage it had a Power Commander 5000 original Air cleaner & 2 into Pipes. I took it to that ... " HD place"
They dyno it & put high flow air filter in. At 1200k it suddenly needed oil.. it took 2 ltr !! ... HD said it is normal !!!
it still wasn't running well so I took it back & they put new plugs in.
At 2000k I had it first service done, they told me to bring it back after I had done another 1000k & they would check the oil & not to touch it ...
So I did anyway before the ks were upI check the oil hot & cold with bike in up right position ...
No oil on the dip stick ????
Rang HD they said not to worry about it that it has 5 & 1/2 litres in the motor & to drop it in some time that they would check it.

Sorry but alarm bells are ringing if the dip stick hasn't got any oil on it!!!!
so I put a litre in & went to HD, they checked it & said it was fine..
A week later its still running like crap so I took it back again & had the Screaming Eagle Pro Tuner put in.
It's still not happy, although it is better. It has a little hiccup sometimes under power, if it was a car I would say it need new plugs, or a problem with fuel.
Has anyone got any info for me??

Welcome to the Forum. Hmmm, Lady Of the Rod doesn't quite sound right. Oh well. Sometimes, a good harley mechanic, working for himself outside of the Dealership network could be the way to go. They have a much better work ethic & take a lot more pride in their work. If its not right the 1st time...quite often the return work is on them. (except parts if required). Chase up the oil prob, don't let them fog you off.

Hi hot iron rod lady I;m no mechanic but if your not losing it { leak } it must be using it and thats not good and don"t let anyone tell you different !!! . You say it runs a bit ordinary , does that involve smokey exhaust ? if so what colour? .Maybe the previous owner ran dud oil or synthetic crap with friction modifiers and the oil rings on the pistons are stuffed allowing oil into the chambers , does it foul plugs? don't let it rest ladyrod it could be terminal !!.

P.S The H.D service repair workshop manual E book {2000-2005 Softail) describes oil level check as , turn off bike when engine is warmed up allow several minutes for oil to drain back into tank ,position bike on level surface ,upright, not on jiffy stand ,extract oil dip stick , oil level should be on top mark of dip stick ,if not add appropriate amount . OIl level taken while bike is on jiffy stand will be a false reading .
