We are considering a trip from Newcastle to Ayers Rock late September next year. Just read about Opal fuel and I'm not sure if I will have to use it BUT can anyone tell me if "Opal Fuel" is ok to run in my 2010 Ultra Limited AND if not what type of octane booster I should or shouldn't use. Thanks for any info
Phil.
There's a lot of info about Opal Fuel on the net Phil, just google " Opal Fuel BP"
Over the last couple of years there's been plenty of pro's and con's discussions and most of it depended upon who you were willing to beleive.
This is just one of the recent yakss that's worth reading , www.pigswillfly.com.au/
BP obviously sponsor sites that have a good word for their product,,, just check the fine print on some of the web sites that document info about Opal.
The bottom line is that Opal is simply a regular unleaded replacement.
BP claims that most of the earlier problems that were identified have been fixed,,,,,, but to be honest, I don't think I'll be helping them prove it in a vehicle or on a bike that was designed to run premium or higher octane unleaded.
Gunna leave that for those that are still running older machines with carbys and won't matter if they knock, ping and or cough their gut's out.
Not sure if there is or will be any octane booster to make it right, never had to use one and hope not to have to either, but my guess is that if one is ever in the predicament to have to use Opal in a late model machine, any of the trusted brand name octane boosters would have to be better than none.
Yeah thanks guys, according to the SHELL website 95 Premium is available up to and including Yulara so hopefully I won't need to use Opal fuel. I had never heard of Opal before, apparently SHELL makes a low Octane low Aromatic fuel as well.
yer that shell is shit, fuck knows what what happens to it comin from singapore
You won't have to worry about it. You can get normal fuel all the way. Some places you won't get premium 95 just normal unleaded. You definately won't get 98 octane outside of major centres, i.e. Alice Springs.
Opal has been improved and claims not to hurt modern day engines.
I understand why they have Opal fuel but to sell normal fuel at the next pump has got me buggered. Defeats the purpose.
You'll be right. Just watch out for the Camels!!
